Harlem Week had their yearly Economic Development Day hosted by Columbia University. April Ryan from American Urban Radio Networks and Cheryl Wills from NY1 were attendees of this event where they promoted and signed copies of their latest books. The day comprised of many informative segments such as International Business and Health Conference, Public and Private business sectors, Outdoor Farmers Market, Basil A Patterson Business Award Luncheon and Tech Meet-up. Each segment emphasized and promoted small minority businesses, health, networking and much more. Image result for harlem week Harlem Week first launched as Harlem Day in 1974 as a day of encouragement. More days were added to the event to showcase the rich history and pride of the community. This year’s festival theme was “Celebrating Women Transforming the World: Past, Present, & Future,” saluting women such as Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and Misty Copeland. The festival also honored members of the LGBTQ community such as Langston Hughes, Neil Patrick Harris, and Gladys Bentley. Celebrating people of different cultural background, religion, race, and ethnicity, Harlem week has always been an event to look forward too not only from people living in Harlem but also those in the 5 boroughs. Harlem Week is a unique asset to the community that brings people together to educate, have fun and grow. Source: Harlem LocalHarlem WeekI Love New YorkColumbia University ]]>
