A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself. This film gives you a combination of this millennium’s Juice and Fresh with an important message. The cast was great, comprised of familiar and new faces to the big screen. It is a great blend of characters that brings a story of friends being themselves and trying to get through the last year of high school while facing obstacles of a tough neighborhood. Three friends are stuck in the 90’s era of hip hop where everyone isn’t. It was good to see some youth still interested in that age of music prior to their time and the reaction of others who could not get it. That clash of eras played a big part in the movie. Everyone had choices that could or could not conform to the normalcy that society expects of young individuals growing up in a difficult neighborhood. Each character brought something to the plot that made it understandable and funny for young and older adults. DOPE the Movie In Theaters June 19th Although serious messages, the comedy involved made it so much more great to watch. There were too many moments where you catch yourself laughing too hard or too long at situations that may have happened to you or someone you know. The soundtrack is also DOPE and a must listen. The music during the movie takes you back to some classics and the new tracks blended well with the scenes. DOPE is exciting and definitely a classic for the new generation. It’s hip, funny, relatable and carries valuable messages. It shares a great message about growth and finding yourself caught between the typical stigmas that some of us can easily fall into. DOPE will be in theaters June 19th and is a sure pleaser and must watch.]]>
