Philo continues to be a streaming service that is dedicated to serving the Black community and elevating Black voices. In 2020, Philo, Donated $1 Million Dollars in ad impressions to 20+ Black-owned businesses and social justice organizations. As a subscription service of more than 60 channels, companies and organizations have a popular forum to highlight their work and increase awareness. The ad campaign is featured on Philo’s website and is part of networks such as A&E, AspireTV, BET, CLEO TV, Food Network, HGTV, OWN, TV One, and plenty more. The ad partners are introduced into the “local insertion” commercial split.

This ad break is traditionally used by cable networks and internet platforms for their own promotional revenue packages, thus commercial incorporation would not add more advertisement time for audiences. Beyond the original ad pledge, Philo’s team has collaborated with some of the companies and enterprises to develop ads leveraging the in-house production team. At its core, Philo values inclusivity and meaningful representation of the broader community and recognizes the responsibility to help accelerate progress by actively dissolving systemic inequity across the board.

Some of the achievements that have taken place in 2020 include a partnership with the National Urban League and The Gathering Spot that featured a two-part “Power Lunch Series: How To Build Your Brand,” working with programming partners and the Ad Council to air anti-racism PSAs across their platform, and a commitment to Black-owned content, including the addition of TV One in 2020.

In preparation for Black History Month, Philo is releasing a curated collection titled “Through the Lens: The Black Experience,” which will include a collection of movies and shows that amplify Black voices, explore Black stories, and celebrate the nuances of Black culture.

Some of the titles include 42, A Different World, Antwone Fisher, Don’t Waste Your Pretty, Family Matters, Fences, Lincoln Heights, MADIBA 1, 2 & 3, Marshall, Miss Virginia, My Wife & Kids, Queen Sugar, The Book Of Negroes 1 & 2, The Belle Collective, The Breakfast Club, The Clark Sisters, Tyler Perry’s Sistas, and many more.

In 2021, Philo recognizes that its responsibilities to serving the Black community and other traditionally-disenfranchised groups are not over.
