SPIN INK is evolving from printing to production to match the ever-changing times. The Canadian design and embroidery company has recently pivoted to mass mask manufacturing and is set to produce over 175,000 masks to be donated to frontline workers under its contract with the City of Toronto.

For the past few weeks, The City of Toronto has mandated that its citizens wear masks to combat the spread of COVID-19. When recently visiting the SPIN INK facilities, Mayor John Tory toured the workplace and offered thanks to employees for their diligence and commitment to this cause.

In addition to the 175,000 masks set for production, SPIN INK also pledges to designate one donated mask out of every 10 masks sold to frontline workers. The reusable and washable cloth masks are being manufactured at rapid paces, with over 5,000 units produced daily.

In taking on this ambitious initiative of high demand and short turnaround time, the company also sought to increase employment opportunities and keep their business thriving. “COVID has been a struggle for us right from the beginning and just to keep doors open as our business at first wasn’t seen as an essential service,” said the company’s management team. “Once we started producing protective masks, that door was able to remain open for business.” Since the pandemic started, the facilities have expanded to accommodate over 35 new jobs within the company.

SPIN INK has continued face mask production beyond their contract and hopes to expand their newly added cut-and-sew division to manufacture other products including headwear, outerwear, banners, and flags. With fall rapidly approaching, the company additionally aims to blend the festivities of Halloween with proper safety by creating ornate, protective face masks.

Mask by mask, SPIN INK is revolutionizing the production industry through creating products that promote positive behavior in the face of formidable times and tackling these problems with a strong moral code. Throughout the many challenges of this project, SPIN INK recognizes the reciprocal benefits of being able to give back to their community and is “happy to be able to help out in any way possible.”
