( ENSPIRE Community Spotlight ) BLK & Bold Coffee Collaborates with Marvel Studios Ahead of the Black Panther’s Release

On October 3, 2022, Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for its movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Fans of the Black Panther universe are experiencing a mix of excitement and grief following the passing of their black panther, Chadwick Boseman, and the return of Wakanda to the big screens. The Black Panther films highlight in various ways the strength and closely knit culture most commonly seen in the African culture. In a similar way, BLK & Bold Specialty Beverages, a Black-owned coffee company, collaborated with Marvel Studios in order to be a licensed partner for the upcoming Black Panther film further spreading the culture and their beliefs as a company.
Although produced for their viewers’ entertainment, both films aim to tell a story. Wakanda, the futuristic metropolis where the movie takes place, can be viewed as an altered continent of Africa. There the population survives by their own means rather than relying on the United States and the government which would then take over and transforms each communities’ way of living. The entire vision that Wakanda has created primarily circulates around the representation of Black culture which continues to be an overlooked aspect in our present-day modernized societies.
BLK & Bold was co-founded by Parnell Cezar and Rod Johnson hoping to create a social impact while also creating quality beverages. The founders stated that their most specific reason for beginning their journey to create BLK & Bold was to “give back to the youth in need”. Because of this goal, the company contributes 5% of all its profits to several organizations across America that support domestic youth that is in need. Their core values, quality, convenience, community, and diversity, are all major factors that aim to bring together coffee and tea drinkers together regardless of their background or ethnicity.
The Marvel Studios’ Black Panther Wakanda Forever x BLK & Bold Specialty Coffee packaging features fans’ favorite characters and can be purchased as coffee grounds or Keurig K-Cups. It comes in a Medium Roast with flavors of caramel, lemon, and nuts with a smooth consistency called RISE & GRND, and a Dark Roast with flavors of caramel and toffee with a creamy consistency called Smoove Operator.
