( ENSPIRE Entertainment ) Actor-Singer Reflects on Love, Growth, and Black Representation in Daytime Television

Keith D. Robinson is a multifaceted artist who continues to blur the lines between music and acting with intention. While he’s widely recognized for his memorable role in Dreamgirls, Robinson now stars in CBS’s daytime drama Beyond the Gates and recently released his heartfelt new single, “Forever Bae.”
The track, inspired by a real relationship, was co-written with producer James Bonn and showcases Robinson’s honest, raw approach to music. “He had a great beat. I was actually about to jump the broom, and I was inspired by the situation,” Robinson shared. “That relationship ended, but the song still existed. It lent itself perfectly to my character trying to win back his wife on the show, so we decided to release it.”
Robinson is set to drop his upcoming album LOVE EPISODIC II this fall, with “Forever Bae” serving as the lead single. He describes the song as a “time capsule” of the past few years. “Every song is inspired by a true event, or something that happened—or I want to happen,” he said. “As I’ve lived through so many changes, it has affected my music. It’s more introspective, more soulful.”
His transition into the Beyond the Gates cast wasn’t without its challenges. Taking over the role of Dr. Ted Richardson—originally portrayed by another actor—required focus, patience, and confidence. “I didn’t use what he did. I wanted to bring my own to it. The reception was kind of lukewarm at first, but the work is slowly winning fans over.”

As the first one-hour Black daytime soap opera, Beyond the Gates presents a rare portrayal of successful Black families. “Representation is very important. It’s what inspired me to become an artist—seeing people who looked like me doing what I wanted to do.”
Between his acting and his music, Robinson’s artistry mirrors the highs and lows of real life. “Art imitates life,” he said simply.
