( ENSPIRE Business ) How TurboTax and Credit Karma Are Using Technology, Access, and Education to Strengthen Financial Empowerment in Communities

Financial empowerment is entering a transformative era as Intuit — the company behind TurboTax and Credit Karma — introduces AI-driven tools, in-person support, and educational resources to help individuals take control of their money with confidence. At an exclusive NYC event, Intuit previewed advancements designed to make tax filing, credit monitoring, and financial empowerment more accessible than ever. Although ENSPIRE could not attend in person, we interviewed TurboTax CPA Lisa Greene-Lewis and Courtney Alev, Consumer Financial Advocate and Senior Director of Product Management at Intuit Credit Karma, to gain insight into how these innovations are reshaping consumer financial wellness.

Both leaders emphasized that the new platform blends real-time AI intelligence with human insight to simplify decision-making around taxes, debt, and credit. Their perspectives reveal a future where personalized guidance, transparent AI, and responsible design help consumers — especially those in underserved communities — confidently navigate their finances year-round.

Greene-Lewis explained that Intuit’s new in-person TurboTax locations are designed to feel more like an Apple retail experience than a traditional tax prep center. With 20 new storefronts and nearly 600 expert offices nationwide, TurboTax meets consumers where they are — offering both AI concierges and human tax experts. Many taxpayers struggle with getting started, and this hybrid model helps individuals organize documents, match with the right expert, and file with less stress and more clarity.

Alev expanded on how Intuit’s Agentic AI elevates traditional financial tools by doing proactive, done-for-you financial work with user consent. Unlike tools that require manual data entry, these AI Agents analyze real-time financial data and deliver personalized recommendations for improving credit, reducing debt, and optimizing taxes. Greene-Lewis added that these features automate data entry, sync with financial institutions, and identify every eligible deduction — essential for freelancers, gig workers, and small business owners. Both emphasized that AI works in conjunction with human experts, providing consumers with flexibility to engage online or in person.

Alev noted that many consumers remain skeptical of AI in money management, which is why Intuit uses a strict Responsible AI Governance framework. Models are reviewed for fairness, transparency, and accuracy before deployment. Partnerships with organizations like the Partnership on AI support ongoing learning and improvement. “Trust is everything,” Alev shared, emphasizing that users remain fully in control while AI helps them avoid missed opportunities and strengthens their long-term financial health.

Greene-Lewis highlighted Intuit’s educational efforts, including the Intuit for Education initiative and College Ambassador Program, which help students understand taxes, credit, and money management. Alev shared how Credit Karma’s new AI tools — such as the Debt Assistant and Refund Assistant — offer action-oriented guidance. These features craft personalized debt paydown plans and help consumers make smarter decisions with tax refunds, offering ongoing support that extends beyond tax season.

Greene-Lewis shared several updates consumers should prepare for, including expanded deductions for tip income, overtime, business expenses, new homeowners, and freelancers. With major tax law changes ahead, she encouraged taxpayers to update withholdings, track expenses, and maximize retirement contributions early to avoid missing valuable savings opportunities.

Intuit’s first NYC flagship TurboTax store represents the future of accessible tax support: a seamless blend of AI matching, in-person experts, and real-time financial guidance. These locations are intentionally placed in communities where financial resources are limited, offering affordable and trustworthy support for those who need it most.

Alev highlighted Credit Karma’s mission to help members know, grow, and protect their wealth. With clearer credit insights, proactive debt strategies, and personalized financial recommendations, Credit Karma ensures users not only understand their finances but also take actionable steps forward. Together, TurboTax and Credit Karma create an integrated ecosystem that simplifies financial empowerment for millions of Americans.

Through responsible AI, human expertise, and community-centered design, Intuit is redefining how consumers manage taxes, credit, and long-term financial health. TurboTax and Credit Karma’s combined innovations mark a major step forward in making financial empowerment more accessible, transparent, and achievable for everyone.
