Camp HBCYouth is a summer program set up by the HBCYouth Foundation. It serves as an educational summer camp for minority elementary school students on HBCU campuses. It aims to reduce summer loss of schooling while also providing children with the opportunity to explore Historically Black campuses and see representation in higher education, when they might not otherwise have the ability to do so. More than just academics, though, the program seeks to engage students with Black culture and community, and serve as a fun experience for all those involved.
On July 10th, the program announced that it would be collaborating with Amazon Access for the second consecutive year. This is a program set up by Amazon to provide services at a discount to families who receive certain government assistance. This includes payment with Cash EBT, discounts on certain groceries and goods, and Amazon Prime at a discount of more than half.

This will help HBCYouth to reach more students, as well as provide Amazon Access deals to more people who need them. Brian Wright, Camp HBCYouth’s founder, has said that he’s “proud to expand Camp HBCYouth to even more campuses by teaming up with Amazon.” Likewise, the Director of Amazon Access, Nancy Dalton, has remarked that “By teaming up with CAmp HBCYouth to reach even more HCBU Campuses, we’re… connecting families to money-saving resources in Amazon stores during summer months.”
The campuses participating in this partnership this year are Tennessee State University, Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College, with aid from the AJ Terrell Jr. Foundation.
Registration for HCBYouth is open at $200 per child weekly, though there are scholarships available for qualifying families. For more information about this, click here. Similarly, if you would like to learn more about Amazon Access, you can click here.
