The Black Fairy Godmother, Simone Gordon, began her foundation to help struggling families and women in need of support. Gordon struggled to get necessities through traditional routes, such as government aid, for her son, who has nonverbal autism. So, she turned to social media. There she found women that responded to her plea for help. With their help, her son could go to therapy. Gordon’s grandmother helped her find her voice and passion for helping others in similar situations as her.
She started by creating a Facebook group to help women, which began her foundation, The Black Fairy Godmother. During the pandemic, Gordon helped raise over $250,000 for families to help pay for their rent, food, and other necessities. And her work does not stop there. She has also extended her organization with new foundations.
The Angel Food Assistance Fund helps families afford enough food to feed their families. The Domestic Violence Fund helps move families fleeing unsafe living situations. The Adopt-A-Family Program, allows partners to help fundraise through social media or on their own through professional circles. The Emergency Assistance Fund helps families receive immediate donations for transportation, utility bills, medical care, and other crucial situations. The Birthday Fundraiser is used as a tool for people to choose a fund to donate to on a birthday. This fund asks family and friends to donate to the cause of your choosing. The Fairy Dust Scholarship Fund helps women enroll in a community college or receive a license or certificate in any field of their choice.
Through her Instagram page, you can see all the families she has helped and is currently raising money for. The website link in her bio is the best way to donate, there you will find separate links to each program and fund listed above. Using those specific links everyone’s donations will go directly to those in desperate need. She is currently raising money for a single mom looking to go back to school, and a family who needs support purchasing items off of their amazon wishlist to help get settled into their new home after experiencing a traumatic event. The family has survived homelessness and needs help to purchase bedding items, kitchen items, and essentials for their home. One of the easiest ways to help families like this one is by purchasing an item for them on their amazon list.
The last time ENSPIRE spoke to Gordon she had around 13k followers on Instagram. Now, a little over two years later, she has amassed 46.6k followers. With her growing support, she will venture into new ways to help women. In a recent interview with Kelly Clarkson, she mentioned she wanted to start a health benefit since she was graduating from nursing school, which she did this June.
Simone has branched out her foundation to help so many women and families. Without her dedication to helping people in need. Some of these families would still be struggling. Simone’s selfless acts to raise awareness and funds to keep struggling families afloat have not gone unnoticed and because of her following, she can find more donors which makes it easier for families to reach out to her. Because of this, her supporters call her, The Black Fairy Godmother.
