ENSPIRE Contributor: Gabrielle Maya
Mandi Crimmins takes her music to an edgy vulnerable level. She is a singing rockstar and her new EP “Borderline” discusses her mental health struggles. Mandi has Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and doesn’t hide it. This EP shows her vulnerability and connects to her listeners who are struggling with many mental illnesses. A unique alternative artist in her own right, the Massachusetts woman now an LA-based artist brings unhinged pop with “Borderline.”
She has gained the attention of the alt-rock band The Haunt, who are her main collaborator. Expect this six-track EP to have a range of high-energy, dark, and melancholy periods of emotion. Her song “Breakdown” showcases unfiltered emotions of what can go on in one’s head who is struggling. Emotions are high and raw with confessional lyrics that can be chaotic yet true to her own experience. Mandi shares, “While I was writing the EP, I actually ended up getting diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Writing to me is therapeutic; usually, whatever is weighing on my mind most comes out during the writing session. After I finished the EP, I realized I had been writing about my diagnosis before I even had it. They all perfectly described what it feels like to be in my head.”
Mandi wants EP “Borderline” to be an outlet for those who cannot voice their inner battles. Mandi confides, “I hope more than anything that my music inspires someone to get help if they’re struggling. I hope it makes people feel seen, validated, and strong.” If you haven’t already go listen to “Borderline” on Spotify.
