Angel Chrisztina, a rising R&B artist from Queens, New York, released a new single called “Teenage Time Machine.” Her New York roots music has dynamic energy and diverse musical influences about love, growth, and the human experience. At seventeen, she brought her singer and songwriting prowess to the industry, giving her that teen appeal with teenage listeners right off the bat.
At the age of nine, she became a seasoned vocalist and performed in bands and every genre of music, from rock to R&B to pop and jazz. Some of her earlier performances were held in restaurants and bars throughout New York City ever since she was twelve and still to this day. Chrisztina recently graduated from a professional performing arts high school in Manhattan. She studied for four years in the classical music department and soon studied at Berklee Conservatory in Boston. In recent news, on October 18, she graced the stage at Amateur Night at the Apollo. She is also a Sag Actor who starred in the 2017 BIOPIC The New Edition Story.
Chrisztina tells us about the inspiration behind her new single, her music style, the challenges in creating music, and more.
Tell us about the inspiration behind your latest single, ‘Teenage Time Machine.’ What’s the story or message you wanted to convey with this song?
I just wanted to make something that was very fun and upbeat, It’s about growing up and having those awkward moments that we all experience. The song talks about the whole idea of wanting to move forward and not looking back to see what the future holds.
As a rising star in contemporary R&B, how would you describe your musical style and the unique elements that set you apart from other artists in the genre?
Because I have sung in many different genres, I can add those elements to my current music. I keep the stylistic elements that I have learned from singing jazz, The openness and freeing feeling from when I sang classical music, and the grittiness from when I sang a lot of rock music. I add in all those elements to elevate the songs that I record.
Could you share some of the challenges and highlights you experienced while working on ‘Teenage Time Machine’? Any interesting anecdotes from the recording or production process?
I don’t think there were necessarily any specific challenges, However, I just remember being really tired because it was like 4 am when we recorded this song, and I had to repeat certain lines over and over and over. I feel like my brain stopped processing at a certain point in the studio session, But I took a 15-minute break and got back to work lol.
Your music has been gaining traction on streaming platforms. What do you think it is about your songs that resonate with your audience and keeps them coming back for more?
I honestly don’t know. I love music, and it’s so awesome that people like and support the music I put out. I try to make relatable songs that people can resonate with, and I think that every song I write is another storyline that people can relate to.
What’s next for Angel Chrisztina in terms of your music career? Are there any exciting projects or plans on the horizon that your fans can look forward to?
I have some new music coming soon before the year 2023 ends, I’m definitely gonna be in the studio all of 2024 writing, Singing, and Recording. Which I always get super excited about. I think that the song I’m releasing soon is the best one yet and will resonate with a lot of people.
The rich culture of New York City is in her songs; her authentic lyrics and relatable melodies make her connect with her peers and today’s youth. Her previous work includes her completed EP, “Things I’ve Observed,” and her two released singles, “Don’t Mind Me” and “Better Than I,” which have gained traction. On September 1st, “Teenage Time Machine” was released, a testament to Angel’s evolving artistry.
