( ENSPIRE She Did That ) Singer-turned-Uber Driver Shares Positivity With Passengers

ENSPIRE Contributor: Grace Chai

Deanna Dixon’s ride to stardom began with an unconventional start: through an Uber drive, she became the Rideshare Queen. Dixon has captured the attention of 4.9 million viewers across social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Through her impromptu performances and animated interactions with passengers, she connects with people through the universal language of music, which has earned her support from giants in the music industry like Rihanna and Chance the Rapper.

Deanna Dixon is well-established, having performed as a background vocalist for artists like Beyonce, John Legend, Monica, Ro James, and Keyshia Cole, and as a member of Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir. She has also contributed to Grammy-nominated albums by Kanye West and Beyonce and appeared on “Sunday Best” and “Showtime at the Apollo.”

Beyond the long list of accolades, however, she earned her name as the “Rideshare Queen” through her videos on TikTok. In 2022, she worked as a full-time singer in Los Angeles before moving back to Atlanta abruptly to focus on her daughter’s wellbeing. Months of no callbacks for jobs or gig work later, she decided to begin doing rideshare full time in Atlanta.

I asked the Rideshare Queen to tell me more about her journey, what led her to use social media as a vehicle for outreach, and advice she would share with readers. Here are her responses, as seen below.

What do you think was the biggest lesson you learned from your move from Hollywood and LA to Atlanta?

I learned that success can find you in the most unconventional ways.

Why did you decide to start posting content and your Uber rides on TikTok and YouTube?

I started posting my videos at the suggestion of a passenger who was touched by his experience with me and blessed me with a 150 [dollar] tip to purchase my first dashcam. I had no idea it would be a major hit.

How has your family shaped the way you view music and your career?

My family and being a mother have inspired me to be more creative in my approach at reaching my goals. I understand the dreamer can always redefine that success.

What was one of your most memorable Uber rides and why?

My most memorable ride was with this 80-year-old white gentleman named Jerry whom I ended up spending half the day [with] visiting historical sites in Atlanta so he could collect stamps. That ride ended in us bridging a gap between the racial divide in our country.

What advice would you give anyone who is at a crossroads in their life?

You can build more in the valley than you can on a mountaintop, so trust the process.

Deanna Dixon’s positive energy is infectious, and she continues to express her love for music with the passengers she takes on the road. Whether driving while forging deep connections with her passengers or taking viewers on the road via social media, Dixon shows that you do not have to be on stage to have an impact on others. You can follow her on social media as she continues to share her journey.
