Fie Eike is a Copenhagen-based artist with a new single and music video for “Sad,” which showcases powerful and raw lyrics accompanied by a piano ballad that calls for emotional sustainability. Eike is a composer, songwriter, and producer whose compositions are inspired by experiences and childhood memories from nature. Her songs bring out a visual atmosphere, from Danish forests to the coastlines of The North Sea, even the fjords and mountain landscape of Norway, where she spent her summers growing up. Fie Eike also captures this atmosphere in photographs and other artwork, stating that visual expression is an integral part and extension of her writing and composition process. When listening to “Sad” you discover the importance of the relationship you have with yourself and the world around you.

“Sad” is Eike’s second single from her upcoming debut album, which will be released later this year. Koda Kultur and the Danish Musicians’ Union are supporting it. This song delves deep into the challenges of sadness or anger and how we avoid them, numb ourselves, or project them onto others. With melodic and playful instrumentation, she laces a deep emotional imprint with a Nordic sophistication and an eerie mystery. The song was written and recorded in hours from a stream of consciousnesses and reflection point of view. According to Eike, daring to feel and be present during challenging emotions is necessary to heal and help gain a deeper understanding of ourselves.

Fie Eike expresses the importance of her song for these times when facing emotions is still a challenge. “We live in a time where there is a sort of allergy towards challenging emotions. There seems to be a misconception that challenging emotions somehow limit our productivity and well-being when, in fact, it is quite the opposite. Everything unresolved eventually seeps out through the cracks. It ends up controlling our subconscious, hindering our well-being, and causing hurt not only in our personal lives but also on a more structural, collective level. If we dare to feel and be present with our deepest, most challenging emotions, we give ourselves the chance to heal.
