On May 9th, 2024, the independent film “Finding Tony” premiered at the iconic TCL Chinese Theaters in Los Angeles, California. The event was spectacular, directed by the award-winning filmmaker Raven Goodwood Goodson and executively produced by NBA star Anthony Davis. The red carpet welcomed the film’s cast and crew, including Stephen Bishop, Raquel Justice, Brooke Sill, Executive Producer Billy Goodson, and Raven Magwood Goodson. VIP guests included notable figures such as David Justice, Hope Jordan, Bianca Bethune, Isabelle Aloyman, and many others.
Over 320 attendees enjoyed an exclusive sneak peek of “Finding Tony” before its midnight release. The screening evoked a wide range of emotions, from tears to laughter, and left the audience in awe. Following the film, a Q&A session hosted by TV personality Gwendolyn Osborne-Smith featured Stephen Bishop, Raquel Justice, and Raven Magwood Goodson. They discussed important topics such as mental health awareness, supporting women in sports, and the inspirational goals behind the film.
Raven Magwood Goodson is an award-winning filmmaker, bestselling author, and motivational speaker. A nationally recognized “achievement expert,” she co-directed the internationally distributed feature film “Haunted Trail” at age 28. Starring Desi Banks, the horror-comedy quickly became BET+’s #1 streaming film on BET+ and aired on BET Her and BET. It is also available on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Tubi. Raven’s latest film, “Finding Tony,” is a sports drama starring Stephen Bishop, David Banner, Columbus Short, Josh Ventura, and Rodney Perry. The film is poised to be one of the top independent films in 2024.
The movie begins with former NBA star Tony Greene, who falls into depression and alcoholism after his wife is violently murdered. After getting a DUI, he reluctantly starts coaching a women’s college basketball team, where he meets Destiny, an orphaned basketball phenom with a bad attitude and an incredible jump shot. Despite their clashing personalities, Tony sees her potential. When Tony thought he had lost everything, his star player helps him find his destiny.
Stephen Bishop shared how his first lead role allowed him to confront personal grief, providing the insight to connect deeply with his character, Tony Greene. Raquel Justice expressed her dedication to her role, training daily to portray a basketball player authentically. The movie was officially released at midnight on May 10th and is now available on the website.
