Aspiring professionals from Atlanta’s prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) got a major boost in their job search recently, thanks to a collaborative effort between the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Empower Me Tour, the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC), and Macy’s!
On September 15th, 250 students from Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University were treated to a shopping experience at Macy’s, specifically geared towards preparing them for interviews with top Fortune 500 companies at the upcoming AUCC Career Fair.
From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, students enjoyed professional styling consultations and exclusive discounts on interview-ready attire. This pre-career fair prep ensured the students felt confident and polished as they presented themselves to potential employers.
The AUCC Career Fair, held on September 20th at the AmericasMart in Atlanta, is a major event connecting talented students from Atlanta’s HBCUs with leading companies.
The UNCF Empower Me Tour, sponsored by Wells Fargo and other national companies, is vital in supporting students of color on their educational and professional journeys. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $25 million in scholarships, impacting the lives of countless students.
UNCF’s mission extends far beyond financial aid. This organization champions HBCUs, advocating for their importance and effectiveness. Although these institutions represent only 3% of all colleges and universities in the US, they contribute significantly to the educational landscape, awarding a remarkable 15% of bachelor’s degrees earned by Black students.
UNCF administers many programs beyond scholarships, including internships, mentorship opportunities, and summer enrichment programs. Today, this organization supports over 60,000 students at more than 1,100 colleges and universities nationwide.
The partnership between UNCF, Macy’s, and the AUCC represents a powerful example of collaboration that empowers the next generation of Black leaders. This initiative paves the way for a brighter future filled with diverse and qualified professionals by providing students with the necessary tools and resources to succeed.
