As national conversations surrounding LGBTQ+ rights intensify amidst ongoing political and cultural tension, one visionary leader in Springfield, Massachusetts, chooses joy, resistance, and community over fear.

Taurean Bethea, founder and Executive Director of the Springfield Pride Parade, is spearheading a visibility, celebration, and empowerment movement for LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly youth. In its fourth year, the Springfield Pride Parade is not just an event—it’s a bold declaration of resilience and pride in a climate where such declarations are increasingly necessary.

This year’s festivities will take place from June 5–7, 2025, with the vibrant city of Springfield transformed into a haven of unity and self-expression. The crown jewel of the weekend? A headlining performance by chart-topping artist Dawn Richard, known for her roles in Danity Kane, Dirty Money, and as a solo powerhouse blending innovation with liberation.

“This isn’t just a parade, this is about a movement, advocacy, and joy. With Dawn Richard as our headlining performer, the 2025 Springfield Pride will echo the spirit of pride and allow our community to come together and celebrate the brilliance and excellence of our diversity.” – Taurean Bethea

The celebration starts with a Pride Flag Raising Ceremony on Thursday, followed by a Youth Community Panel that centers the voices of LGBTQ+ youth, sponsored by Liberty Bank and moderated by influencer Kenneth Kyrell. The much-anticipated You Ball: A Studio 54 Experience will take over the MGM Springfield Aria Ballroom on Friday. More than just a party, the You Ball is a fundraising gala that supports programs such as the Safe Space After School Program and vital LGBTQIA+ advocacy initiatives.

Studio 54, a haven of self-expression and inclusivity during its heyday, is the creative inspiration behind the You Ball. “We’re channeling the unapologetic freedom of Studio 54,” says Bethea. “Because being your most authentic self should never be up for debate.”

The Springfield Pride Parade steps off from Springfield Technical Community College at noon on Saturday, June 7, and marches with purpose down Main Street, culminating in the beloved Block Party at Stearns Square. With electrifying performances, local vendors, family-friendly fun, and Dawn Richard’s highly anticipated set, the block party promises an unforgettable affirmation of love, freedom, and celebration.

A growing list of community-minded sponsors supported this year’s Pride Weekend, including the Springfield Department of Health & Human Services, MassMutual, Baystate Health, TD Bank, GILEAD Sciences, and MGM Springfield.

But beyond the glitter and festivities, Taurean Bethea’s mission is crystal clear: to ensure that every LGBTQIA+ youth in Springfield feels seen, heard, and supported. By focusing on access to healthcare, financial literacy, housing security, and safe spaces, the Springfield Pride Parade Organization invests in a future where no young person is left behind because of who they are.

At a time when LGBTQ+ communities continue to face political backlash and marginalization, Bethea and his team offer a powerful counter-narrative—one rooted in joy, visibility, and unwavering love.
