Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs is Launching a New Campaign Based on a Quirk They Noticed in the Subway Map

Nathan’s Famous has been around since 1916, when Nathan Handwerker arrived from Poland with his wife, Caroline, and opened a hot dog stand. Since then, it has become a New York staple, growing further, with restaurants, and even a famous hot dog-eating contest. Coincidentally, the MTA has just released a revamped map of the subway, and if you follow the N, F, or Q lines, you will see that they converge at Coney Island, the home of Nathan’s Famous.
While this would not be interesting normally, the colors of the N, F, and Q lines make this convergence look suspiciously like a hot dog. Whether this was a coincidence or purposeful, Nathan’s Famous has started a new advertising campaign capitalizing on this. In the ads, they zoom in on where the N, F, and Q lines converge and add a yellow line for mustard. One is pictured below, along with the MTA’s new map. “It felt like the MTA gave us a nod – in the shape of a hot dog,” the marketing manager for Nathan’s Famous, Brittany Oliver, said about it.

It’s building off of the “100% Beef, 100% New York” branding, which launched in 2024. This campaign consisted of commercials that contained the slogan as well as other advertisements, even including it on their website. It emphasizes the quintessential New York nature of Nathan’s Famous and is a nod to how important the brand is.
