( ENSPIRE Community Spotlight ) Tina Fobbs Teaches Proper Ingredients for Black Hair in New Hair Care Line
ENSPIRE Contributor: Spencer Hatcher
After having her own struggles with postpartum hair loss, Tina Fobbs created pHyre Hair Co. to combat her issues with hair loss. Although the brand is fairly new to the mainstream market, the products have been helping women succeed during their healthy hair growth journeys since 2015. Tina’s main goal was to provide consumers with top-quality, pH balanced, and natural products that combat ongoing issues of hair loss, thinning, and dryness. The Grow My Hair Healthy Kit contains the best natural ingredients including:
- Neem (The best herb for healthy hair growth & helps treat scalp issues like traction alopecia)
- Coconut (Increases shine & best for retaining moisture)
- Lavender- (Speeds up hair growth)
- Peppermint- (increases circulation for hair growth)
All of these ingredients plus other herbs and oils are known for their strengthening and hair growth stimulating properties have been merged into an exclusive combination to deliver the most reliable, safe, and healthy results for women.
What process did you go through to figure out what ingredients aid in hair growth?
The first thing I did was research the ingredients that were most commonly used in other hair oils. Although the blend of oils from other brands did not work for hair growth, some of those ingredients were necessary. After that, I talked to three Trichologists. That’s how I was introduced to other less popular herbs that work miracles! Everything came together with the help of professionals who focus on hair growth.
What made you decide to open up your own business?
I have been an entrepreneur for the past 11 years. I have previously worked for corporations but that wasn’t for me. Entrepreneurship is where I’m most comfortable. As far as opening a haircare company, I knew there were people out there who needed my product as much as I did. I’ve personally felt the effect that hair loss and thinning has on someone.
What challenges or difficulties have you faced operating during the pandemic?
I feel for all business owners during this pandemic. I was fortunate enough not to face too many challenges while launching pHyre Hair Co. during this pandemic. The one marketing aspect that I wish was different was the fact that I haven’t been able to participate as a vendor at large events like The Essence Festival.
What do you feel is important for women to know regarding taking care of their hair and maintaining health?
It’s important to remember that healthy hair is usually a strong sign of a healthy body. If your hair becomes dry, brittle, and breaks off easily, then this means you’re either not getting enough nutrients in your system or your hair simply isn’t getting enough hydration. Hydration and pH balance are what pHyre Hair products focus on. Always pay attention to what your hair is telling you!
What does your mentorship for women in business involve and what are your long term goals for this?
I realize how rewarding entrepreneurship is but I also know how stressful it can be. When anyone comes to me with their new business idea or recently launched business I do what I can to guide them. I’m very transparent about my journey and love to share the pitfalls I faced with each business. Long-term I would love to put together a structured group that meets weekly or biweekly so that everyone can connect and challenge one another as every woman embarks on their path to success.
Despite these obstacles, she has built a strong brand whose purpose is to teach the importance of maintaining the health of one’s hair. She also spends her free time mentoring young women regarding so they can learn to balance their family life with multiple businesses.
