Ian Foreman has become a rising star since his memorable appearance in “I Saw The TV Glow.” The young man was seen at the feature film debut premiere on April 24 at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn, NY. He graced the carpet dressed in Dolce & Gabbana, marking a significant milestone in his flourishing career. The film “I Saw The TV Glow” was released on May 3, 2024. This is one of two films featuring Ian that premiered at the 40th annual Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. “I Saw The TV Glow” was directed by Jane Schoenbrun and produced under Emma Stone’s Fruit Tree banner, with notable actors, including Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine. It is a horror thriller where you’ll feel unsettled, intrigued, and drawn in as the characters go through a form of obsession that manifests.
Recent developments for Ian include an announcement on April 23rd via Deadline that his second Sundance feature, “Exhibiting Forgiveness,” will be picked up by Roadside Attractions for later release this year. The following film will be directed by debut filmmaker Titus Kaphar and stars André Holland, Andra Day, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and John Earl Jelks.
In both films, Ian portrays the younger version of the protagonists, appearing in critical flashback scenes that have drawn praise from film critics at major outlets, including Deadline, Variety, and Indiewire. Furthermore, Foreman had a role on Showtime’s “Let The Right One In” where he co-starred alongside Academy Award nominee Demian Bichir and Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose.
Foreman shares how he pursued his career in acting, his experience during the pandemic, acting opportunities, his interactions with Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine, his takeaways from “I Saw The TV Glow,” and more.
When did you decide to pursue your acting career? Have you always wanted to be an actor?
I started acting in 2020, a couple of months after Covid started. I began homeschooling and became very bored with everything being shut down. My mom wanted to find something productive to do, so she registered me in this virtual acting class called “Young Actors Of Atlanta.” After about two months, my coach helped me prepare to become an agent. I started booking jobs shortly after that; the rest is history, and I’ve had fun ever since.
You became an actor during the pandemic; please share your experience and how you handled the changes.
I had always been a social butterfly, so adjusting to not being in person was hard. After I started acting classes, it was an outlet, and I felt so relieved that I could finally talk to other kids, make friends, and learn to do something super fun! Since I started acting, I’ve also learned so much about myself, so I am thankful because things slowed down during the pandemic enough for me to find something I love doing.
What opportunities and doors have opened since your “Let The Right One In” debut?
Since “Let The Right One In,” I have done many things. I have filmed some movies that will be coming out soon. One of which came out nationwide is called “I Saw The TV Glow”. I also went to the Sundance Film Festival for two movies I filmed after “Let The Right One In.” I had always wanted to attend the Sundance Film Festival, so having that experience was excellent.
What was it like working on set with Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine?
It was adorable on set with Justice and Brigette. I only got to see Justice in passing because my role was his young version, so we didn’t have scenes together. I had more scenes with Bridgette, and it was so fun to work with her. She’s very talented, and that motivated me in our scenes. It’s always amazing when you have a great actor to act on.
You have worked with Demian Bichir and Anika Noni Rose. Have they given you any advice about the entertainment industry you carry with you in your performances now and in the future?
Yes, they have. I received much feedback and advice on set with Anika and Demian. I remember one time on set when I was very energetic, which was showing in my leg because I was shaking it. Anika gave me ways to calm down so it didn’t affect my acting. Damian made me feel so comfortable when I had scenes with him. He encouraged me and praised me for my excellent work in the show.
What were your favorite takeaways from working on “I Saw The TV Glow,” and how have they enhanced your knowledge of acting/entertainment?
Working on “I Saw The TV Glow” helped me become an actor. When I got an audition, I learned how to analyze characters because Young Owen was such a three-dimensional character that I had to dig deeper. With the Director Jane’s help, it was effortless to understand how Owen felt.
Since the recent announcement of “Exhibiting Forgiveness” being picked up by Roadside Attractions, what do you look forward to when working on set?
I have already filmed “Exhibiting Forgiveness,” which was an AWESOME EXPERIENCE! I felt so at home and comfortable. Everyone felt like family. It was such a fantastic space, and if I had beenn’t as relaxed as I was, I’m not sure if I would have been able to do the work I did.
