The road to college can be daunting. Organizations like UNCF, also known as United Negro College Fund, are there to guide students on their journey. On December 6th, the UNCF’s Empower Me Tour (EMT) brought its signature program to Los Angeles, empowering hundreds of high school students with the tools and resources they need to thrive in college.
This free event offered a one-stop shop for aspiring college students. Attendees participated in insightful workshops on college preparation, financial literacy, and personal branding. Interactive panel sessions like “Guy Talk” and “My Black Is Beautiful: Girl Talk” fostered open dialogue on issues facing young people and celebrated diversity.
But the real highlight for many was the opportunity to connect with representatives from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Students could interview for on-site admission and scholarships, a dream come true for many. The impact was undeniable – over $1.5 million in scholarships were awarded at the LA stop alone, with the tour total exceeding a staggering $14 million!
The UNCF dedicates its time to empowering Black students, which is evident in its long-standing commitment to education. As the nation’s largest minority education organization, the UNCF provides scholarships, mentorship programs, and vital support to HBCUs, ensuring these institutions continue to be beacons of academic excellence and cultural pride.
The Empower Me Tour’s Los Angeles stop was a resounding success, leaving a trail of empowered students and dreams ignited. With its unwavering commitment to education and opportunity, the UNCF continues to light the path for future generations. Visit UNCF.org for more information.
