Join UNCF for the 7th annual Hamptons Summer Benefit weekend, August 18-19th. Created to show appreciation to UNCF’s supporters whose commitment to education has opened doors for deserving students who couldn’t afford a college degree, this event has become one of Long Island’s must-attend happenings of the season. Over 400 community influencers, business and civic leaders are expected, including event co-chairs Jean Shafiroff, NYC author, socialite and philanthropist; and Gregory Lowe II, CEO of Lowekey. “Events such as the Hamptons Summer Benefit are vital to the sustainability of the community,” said Fred D. Mitchell, vice president, UNCF Northern/Midwest region. “UNCF changes lives by helping the students of today become the teachers, scientists, business people, doctors and nurses of tomorrow—ultimately fortifying a better future for us all.” UNCF continues the tradition of honoring game-changing advocates of education with the Keeper of the Flame award; past recipients include Susan Taylor, Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell, Robert F. Smith, Cathy Hughes, Reginald Hudlin, Dr. Ronald A. Johnson and Frank Baker. This year, UNCF is excited to announce Edward Lewis, Founder of Essence magazine and Essence Music Festival; and Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, former president of UNCF-member institutions, Spelman College and Bennett College for Women, During 2009–2017 she was Director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art. and principal consultant, Cook Ross, as recipients of this award. The signature fundraiser will provide scholarships for underrepresented students in the east end of Long Island, from Riverhead to Montauk, and help maintain the 37 UNCF member historically black colleges and universities. (HBCUs) Additional weekend details are as followed: Saturday, August 18th – VIP reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. at the Silberkleit residence Sunday, August 19th – brunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.at the Bay Kitchen Bar (39 Gann Rd, East Hampton, NY) will close out the weekend.]]>
