Toronto born artist Kaisha Lee has released her new single and music video, “Got Somebody” on all streaming services. With musical influences from her Jamaican roots, her soulful new single was written during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—highlighting the resilience, hope, and spirit of those affected physically, mentally, and emotionally by the virus and the social justice protests last year.
The “Got Somebody” music video shows Lee playing the piano while singing, with clips of her walking in a local Black Lives Matter protest. She is seen grasping the hands of those at the protest with a handful of rose petals, and as she walks away she leaves them with a single petal, reminding them that they “have somebody,” emphasizing the message of the song.
Lee’s new single follows a string of releases, including “My Love is Rare, “Haile” and “Let Go.” Her powerful voice and introspective lyrics in “Got Somebody” digs deep into the soul and has her fans realize that even in the hardest of times, we got somebody. The multi-talented artist truly has a voice to be reckoned with, and her new single is proof of that.
The heart and soul of Lee’s music started from a very young age. From singing in several Gospel and classical choirs to learning the piano at the age of six, she strengthened and nurtured all of her talents into becoming a singer, songwriter, and musician. Carving out a musical career, she released her first demo recording, “Undefined” in 2010 and became a local favorite on Caribbean radio stations.
While still a part of the Sharon Riley and Faith Chorale, her songwriting garnered her a Gemini Award—which was awards presented annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television to recognize the achievements of the Canadian Television industry. Being presented from 1986 to 2011, the Gemini Awards were the equivalent of the Emmy Awards that are given in the United States.
Since then, she has performed on many stages—from festivals like Afrofest, One Love Fest, and the I Heart Reggae showcase to performing all over Montreal and London. Her impenetrable connection with audiences everywhere is instant and her performances are unforgettable.
“Got Somebody” can be found on streaming platforms such as Spotify and ITunes, and the music video can be streamed via YouTube. To keep up with Kaisha Lee, you can find her on Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and Soundcloud.
