Jean-Paul Gaultier collaborated with The Webster to host a cocktail party to celebrate his new launch of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/summer 2023 collection, FLOWERS. The FLOWERS collection showcases his new motif called fleurs liquides a.k.a. ‘liquid flowers’ print which is printed on dresses, tube pants, mélange tops, and on the scarf-turned bag. This design has taken inspiration from Gaultier’s collaboration with Jean-Vincent Simonet, inspiration from the 2000sThe FLOWERS collection mixed the liquid flowers patterns with the morphing motif from the 1996 “Cyberbaba” collection to achieve skin tight, his 2001 “Louise Brooks chez Easy Rider” collection- he used scarves and flower patterns to create the ‘inside-out’ garments to create geometric deconstructed looks.
The cocktail party was on May 2nd at 632 on Hudson in New York City. According to Gaultier’s creative director, Florence Tétier, her universe consisted of images that combined an aquatic environment with virtual reality, Kylie Jenner became a cyber-mermaid and metamorphosized the concept of flowers through her outfit. Other guests who were invited to the party included Stormi Webster, Ava Max, Coco Rocha, The Clermont Twins, Aquaria, Stefon Diggs, Richie Shazam, Briana Andalore, Young Emperors, KESH, Anna Trevelyan, Chloe Wise, Eric Jess, Linux, Vashtie, Maeta, Olivia Ponton, CT Hedden, Gonnie Garko (Event DJ), and more.
“For this collection, working with Kylie Jenner was an obvious choice. Her personality and notoriety make her a true source of inspiration. She ideally matches the representation of a modern mermaid that I was looking for a powerful being capable of adapting to their environment. Pairing Elizaveta Porodina and her eerie visual universe with Kylie Jenner mirrored the marriage of my vision of ‘augmented’ nature with the floral references taken from Maison’s archives.
