Chicago’s only independent & black-owned dispensary, the Grasshopper Club opened the South Loop’s first dispensary last week. Matthew Brewer, the founder & Owner of Grasshopper Club, and 4th Ward Alderman Lamont Robinson gave remarks on the historical moment including an artwork unveiling by local artist Nikko Washington. This is their second location after making history by opening its first location in Logan Square in February 2023 becoming the city’s first and only black-owned dispensary.

Between its prime locations in both Logan Square and South Loop, Grasshopper Club joins a small number of dispensaries with multiple locations throughout the city. Last week Grasshopper held the ribbon cutting at the new location at 58 E. Roosevelt. The Brewers matriarch, Dianne Brewer made the first transaction! Grasshopper Club was created to change how people explore cannabis.  As a Chicago-based, independent, and black-owned business, they are committed to creating a diverse ecosystem in the industry.

Grasshopper Club is more than just your average dispensary. They provide curated products, concierge-level service, and elevated experiences to inspire connections, exploration, fun, and impact. Grasshopper Club was created out of a desire to change how people explore cannabis. We recognize that everyone has a different relationship with the plant — some of us are newer consumers (canna-curious), while others have been smoking joints since high school (canna users). With over 20 years in cannabis and hospitality, our concierge team can curate the perfect high. They’ve curated a wide selection of products ranging from pre-rolls, flowers, edibles, and much more, that includes only the best of Chicago cannabis.

Grasshopper Club started with a family from the South Side of Chicago and their vision to create a local dispensary that goes beyond merely selling flowers. As a Chicago-born, Black-owned business, our mission is rooted in heritage and legacy. Apart from delivering premium curated products and personalized service, we’re committed to building career paths and ownership opportunities within Grasshopper Club to create a more diverse ecosystem in the industry. Whether you’re a cannabis newbie searching for a particular “feeling” or an experienced canna-sseur looking for a specific dosage or strain, our expert canncierges are here to help. All in an effort to not only change the way the world thinks about cannabis but to create an immaculate vibe and community through shared interests.
