Cost is one of the most common barriers keeping people from pursuing their education. I don’t know many organizations paying for their employees’ education, but that’s exactly what Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is doing. Goodwill has announced that it would pay 100% of tuition, books, and associated costs upfront for any employee with at least 90 days of continuous employment. Goodwill Industries of Central Florida (GICF) has invested more than $114,240 in educational mobility for its employees. Not only does this incentive attract more Goodwill employees, but this has an impact that can change the trajectory of many employees’ lives, giving them access to higher education and greater opportunities, without the burden of financial debt. The financial burden is one that leaves many individuals and college graduates in financial hardship, with 70% of graduates saying that their loan debt greatly impacts their choices after college. This incentive can relieve that burden, allowing new graduates more financial freedom.

Employees who sign up for Goodwill Scholars are paired with a Prosperity Planner. A Goodwill team member, who specializes in financial and career goal strategies, will help develop an individualized action plan and provide one-on-one coaching to participants. Since the creation of Goodwill Scholars in 2022, over 100 employees have earned a Master’s, Bachelor’s, Associate’s, or professional certificate from a Florida-state public college/university, accredited technical college, or trade school.
