Blink Twice is set to grace theaters on August 23, 2024. It is a unique blend of the horror and thriller genres, a testament to Zoë Kravitz’s daring directorial debut. Kravitz also co-wrote the film with E.T. Feigenbaum and previously collaborated with Feigenbaum on the 2020 television show High Fidelity. Kravitz’s new movie follows tech billionaire Slater King, portrayed by Channing Tatum, who meets cocktail waitress Frida, played by Naomi Ackie, at his fundraising gala. The initial spark between the two leads King to invite Frida to join him and his friends on a surreal vacation on his private island.
After jet-setting to a beautiful island, Frida and her friend, played by Alia Shawkat, enjoy the extravagance surrounded by billionaires. It seems perfect until things worsen, disrupting their lifetime vacation. The odd turn leaves Frida feeling confused and isolated. She begins losing memories and is deeply unsettled by what she is witnessing. Violence and chaos begin to take over the once-exciting trip. Frida will have to uncover the truth of the luxury and escape the island’s darkness to make it out alive.
Blink Twice brings many of its stars into a new light as they tackle the suspenseful thriller genre. Alia Shawkat and Channing Tatum may be more recognizable from comedic roles, but their versatility as actors proves they can deliver just as well in suspenseful films. However, actors Christian Slater and Kyle McLachlan are right at home as veterans of the thriller genre, having starred in riveting movies such as The Confessor and Blue Velvet, respectively. They continue to show off their remarkable serious acting abilities in this feature.
The director herself, Zoë Kravitz, is no stranger to thrillers and dramas. She recently starred in the action drama The Batman. Blink Twice, however, is her first escapade into the world of directing. Blink Twice allows its stars and behind-the-scenes collaborators to shine and show off their skills.
