Tennis Star Coco Gauff Receives the Honor of U.S. Flag Bearer for the Paris Olympics Games 2024

Renowned tennis player Coco Gauff has been named Team USA’s female flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. CNN reports state that the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) announced this on Wednesday, July 24th. Three-time Olympian LeBron James will join her at Friday’s event. According to CNN resources, Gauff states, “I could not be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage—at a moment where we can bring athletes and fans together from around the world.”

The new generation of athletes is taking hold of this year’s Olympic games. Gauff is the first female tennis player to hold the U.S. Olympic Flag. According to NPR, Gauff has recently won the U.S. Open Grand Slam title in 2023. Not only that, but the Women’s Tennis Association currently ranks her as the world’s second-ranked female player. The Olympic opening ceremony marks her first Olympic appearance due to her having COVID-19 before the Tokyo 2020 Games. In other news, a recent announcement was shown on the Today Show, which broadcast live from Paris and announced her selection as the flag bearer.

The Parade of Nations, which usually features national delegations of athletes entering the Olympic Stadium on foot – will take place on the water, with boats carrying the 10,500 athletes through the city’s center. The ceremony begins on July 26th at  1:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on NBC.
