Prepare to be inspired by the powerful true story of “Fight Like A Girl”. An unfortunate rebel attack that leaves a young woman an orphan changes her life forever in this moving documentary, which introduces viewers to the dangerous streets of East Africa. Starring as Ama Qamata, the breakout star of Netflix Africa’s #1 series “Blood and Water,” this brilliant actress brings depth to her character with nuance and passion as she struggles with the harsh realities of her new life.
The film is based on the incredible true story of Clarck Ntambwe, the Congolese boxing champion who also makes her acting debut in a significant supporting role. Tragic events have characterized Clarck’s journey; in 2017, a brutal assault on her village in North Kivu took her father’s life. She found an all women’s boxing squad in Goma while looking for comfort, and it quickly became her security. She turned her suffering and loneliness into a powerful source of motivation and direction through her experiences.
Filmed on location in October 2022 amid a roaring conflict in East Congo, the production employed a non-actor supporting cast, including child soldiers, boxers, and street kids, to play self-portraits to show the region’s ongoing hardships and rising tensions accurately. With over 6 million Congolese people forced into displacement, the current conflict, which involves escalating conflicts between armed groups and government troops, has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
This influential movie has already had a significant impact with eight nominations for the African Movie Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Clarck. Fight Like A Girl, directed by Matthew Leutwyler, is proof of the importance of genuine narrative. Because of his humanitarian work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he came onto the incredible story of the boxing team, Leutwyler has a personal connection to the movie’s subject matter. The tale grows deeper by his recent visit to East Congo, where he provided essential food and medical supplies to those impacted by the conflict.
NBA champion Serge Ibaka is the film’s executive producer and a strong advocate of African storytelling. His involvement brings a depth of genuineness that impacts a deep connection, bridging the gap between African and personal storytelling. As a result, audiences everywhere may expect this movie to have a lasting impact.
I watched the documentary film, and it deeply moved me. The film portrayed the incredible true story of Clarck Ntambwe—a woman whose unwavering spirit has inspired countless others. Her story provided an inspirational example that people can overcome challenges and do amazing things, even in hardships. As I followed her narrative, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between her experiences and those of countless other people going through similar struggles. Clarck’s unbelievable tale shows us that even in the depths of darkness, there is always room for change and development, and it is a tribute to our ability to be resilient and hopeful. I will forever be moved after witnessing her inspirational story because of her courage and dedication.
