How did you begin your experience in healthcare? What kind of healthcare did you work in? When did you become an entrepreneur, and how did that correlate with your career path as a business leader?

My healthcare journey began somewhat serendipitously. After high school, I explored various industries while juggling a full-time college schedule. I tried to pinpoint where my true talents and passions lay. The healthcare field seemed like a promising fit for me, heavily influenced by my mother, a dedicated career nurse. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in hospitals, which gave me a sense of comfort and familiarity with the environment. This familial connection and my experiences eventually guided my path into healthcare. I began to discover a space that aligned with my skills and addressed my desire to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives.

My journey in healthcare has been quite diverse. I began as a surgical technologist or scrub tech. I was responsible for handing instruments to surgeons during surgical operations. This foundational role, which I held full-time for about a year and part-time for another four years, gave me an in-depth understanding of the clinical side of healthcare.

While working as a scrub tech part-time, I expanded my responsibilities by taking on various administrative roles. These experiences gave me valuable insights into healthcare’s operational and logistical aspects. My drive to contribute more significantly led me to transition even deeper into the administrative side. I embraced numerous roles, ultimately propelling me into healthcare management and leadership. This varied experience has given me a comprehensive perspective on the healthcare industry’s clinical and administrative facets.

My transition into entrepreneurship came as a profound turning point that felt like a ‘divine intervention wake-up call.’ Several years into my career in healthcare management and leadership, I found myself at a startup organization facing numerous challenges, which resulted in high stress and various health issues, including being clinically diagnosed with burnout twice. Despite being approached for director-level positions, I hesitated to step outside my comfort zone, even as it became clear that my current path was unsustainable.

The situation reached a critical point when I was unexpectedly laid off from my position. This traumatic experience forced me into a period of deep self-reflection. During that time I realized my true passion lay in mentoring and coaching others. I saw a significant gap in the workplace for proper leadership preparation, training, and ongoing development, which aligned perfectly with my interests and skills.

Embracing this newfound clarity, I pursued coaching training for a year, which set the foundation for my entrepreneurial journey. In 2019, I launched my first leadership coaching company, focusing on empowering other women in healthcare management to become effective leaders. This transition allowed me to combine my business acumen with my passion for personal development, marking a new chapter in my career as a business leader.

I am so blessed to connect with others more fully through both of my TV shows.

I encourage audiences to embrace authenticity, vulnerability, and empathy—key pillars of true leadership.
