( ENSPIRE She Did That ) Founder Marsha Guerrier On Breaking Barriers And Securing Capital

Marsha Guerrier, the founder of HerSuiteSpot, is on a mission to revolutionize the landscape for women entrepreneurs. More than just a business platform, HerSuiteSpot is bringing change from Guerrier’s experiences of underrepresentation in the corporate world. Guerrier recognized the need for a space where women, particularly women of color, could launch businesses and thrive, filling the wage and promotion gap. HerSuiteSpot fosters business growth and personal transformation.

Guerrier’s passion stems from witnessing firsthand how a lack of financial literacy and support systems often leaves women’s potential unfulfilled. She understands the unique challenges women face, especially regarding securing funding. HerSuiteSpot inspires countless women to take the leap into entrepreneurship and provide them with the knowledge, confidence, and crucial access to capital they need to start their businesses. Guerrier shares the pivotal moment that sparked the creation of HerSuiteSpot, addresses the gaps in the marketplace, gives guidance tips on how to sustain growth in a business, tells us the struggles of seeking funding, and the impact HerSuiteSpot has within the community.

Can you share the pivotal moment that ignited the spark for HerSuiteSpot and solidified your commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs, particularly in accessing capital?

The pivotal moment that ignited my spark to start HerSuiteSpot was when I was undervalued and under-promoted at work. I was in yet another role where I was promised a promotion, essentially auditioning for a position I was already more than qualified for. I was working for a startup in FinTech, and I was tired of watching rich white men advance and build wealth using my skills while I remained overlooked. That’s when I decided I wouldn’t keep waiting for a seat at their table—I would make my own.

With over 30 years of experience in FinTech, I knew I had the knowledge and expertise to help other women who looked like me. I also knew that most women, especially women of color, lacked the network, resources, and capital to start and grow a business.

What specific gaps in the marketplace did you identify that you felt compelled to address?

The most significant gap I found was that women needed capital but didn’t know where to start accessing it. It wasn’t just about funding—it was about financial education, business strategy, and having a supportive community that understood what women founders truly needed to succeed.

HerSuiteSpot was created to bridge those gaps by giving women the knowledge, connections, and opportunities to access capital and scale their businesses on their terms. My mission has always been to ensure that women entrepreneurs get the funding, resources, and support they deserve without waiting for someone else’s approval.

In your experience, what are some of the most common mistakes women make in this marketplace process, and what practical advice can you offer to help them create a plan that attracts investors and serves as a roadmap for sustainable growth?

One of the biggest mistakes I see women entrepreneurs make when crafting a business plan is focusing too much on the idea and not enough on the numbers. Many founders get caught up in their business’s vision—what they want to create and how passionate they are about it—but investors want to see a clear path to profitability. They need to know that your business is sustainable and scalable.

Another mistake is not fully understanding their market and customer base. Too often, I see vague business plans about who the target audience is, how they behave, and why they would choose this product or service over others. Without intense market research, a business plan lacks credibility.

A third common issue is not having a clear funding strategy. It’s not enough to say, “I need $100,000.” Investors and lenders want to know exactly how that money will be used and the return on investment. Your business plan won’t stand out if you don’t outline your financial projections and explain how the capital will drive growth.

My practical advice:

  1. Get clear on your numbers. Know your costs, pricing strategy, revenue streams, and profit margins. If numbers aren’t your strength, get help from a mentor, accountant, or business coach.
  2. Do your market research. This will show investors that you understand your industry and that there is a demand for your product or service. Include customer insights, industry trends, and competitive analysis.
  3. Make the plan action-oriented. A business plan isn’t just for investors—it’s a roadmap for your growth. Set clear milestones and KPIs that you can track.
  4. Tailor your financial ask. Whether you’re applying for a grant, pitching an investor, or seeking a loan, customize your plan to align with what funders are looking for.

A strong business plan isn’t just a document—it’s a tool to help you grow your business with clarity and confidence. My goal with HerSuiteSpot is to help women craft plans that attract funding and position them for long-term success.

What are some of the most pervasive challenges faced by women entrepreneurs when seeking funding, and how does HerSuiteSpot equip them to overcome these obstacles?

One of the most pervasive challenges women entrepreneurs face when seeking funding is a lack of clarity in their business’s financial health. Many women, while passionate about their companies, lack the fully prepared financial documentation that investors and lenders require. Having detailed records—such as business plans, pitch decks, and financial statements. Yet, many women either don’t have these materials ready or struggle with how to present them effectively. Beyond the paperwork, confidence is another significant barrier. Because we are so used to being rejected, many women walk into funding meetings already feeling defeated, doubting their ability to secure the capital they need. This mindset can hold them back from advocating for themselves and their businesses with the confidence investors seek.

This is precisely why I created the 4 Pillars of Success framework, which begins with mindset, followed by money, marketing, and media. Mindset is the foundation of everything—if we don’t believe we are worthy of investment, it shows in how we present ourselves and our businesses. Money is about understanding financial literacy, pricing, and funding strategies, while marketing and media focus on attracting customers, positioning your brand, and telling your business story effectively. At HerSuiteSpot, we help women master all four areas to approach funding conversations fully prepared and confident, knowing they have the knowledge, resources, and support to secure the capital they need.

Are there specific strategies or resources you recommend for navigating this landscape?

Navigating the funding landscape requires preparation, strategy, and persistence. The first step is understanding your financials—knowing your revenue, expenses, profit margins, and projections is crucial. If numbers aren’t your strength, seek guidance from an expert.

Diversifying funding sources is also key. Beyond traditional loans and venture capital, grants, pitch competitions, crowdfunding, and angel investors provide valuable alternatives. At HerSuiteSpot, we connect women to funding opportunities and provide the education needed to secure capital. Through programs like the HerRise Capital Readiness Accelerator, we help women refine their pitch decks, business plans, and fundraising strategies.

Networking and mentorship open doors to funding that isn’t always publicly advertised. Being part of a strong community like HerSuiteSpot provides access to the right people and insights—finally, confidence matters. Many women expect rejection before they even pitch, which holds them back. Mastering mindset, money, marketing, and media ensures women can present their businesses with clarity and conviction. Accessing capital isn’t just about paperwork—it’s about being prepared and making a compelling investment case.

How does HerSuiteSpot foster a supportive and collaborative environment for women entrepreneurs?

HerSuiteSpot fosters a supportive and collaborative environment through HerSuiteSpot Academy, our monthly membership that provides women entrepreneurs the mentorship, resources, and community they need to succeed. Through The BoardRoom group coaching sessions and our Monthly Business Mixer, members gain valuable insights, build strategic relationships, and stay accountable to their business goals. We emphasize peer-to-peer learning, networking, and support, ensuring women can access the connections and guidance they need to grow. By creating a safe and empowering space, HerSuiteSpot helps women connect, collaborate, and thrive.

What kind of impact have you seen this community have on the growth and resilience of its members?

The impact of HerSuiteSpot Academy on the growth and resilience of its members has been truly transformative. One of the biggest successes we’ve seen is how women go on to raise capital between $25,000 to $100,000 through pitch competitions after participating in our pitch practice sessions in The BoardRoom. These sessions provide a safe space for women to refine their pitches, receive constructive feedback, and build the confidence to effectively present their businesses. Many entrepreneurs struggle with pitching because of fear or lack of experience. Still, we create an environment where they can practice, fail forward, and perfect their delivery before stepping onto bigger stages.

Beyond funding, the women in our community develop a stronger sense of self-assurance and business acumen, allowing them to take bolder steps in their entrepreneurial journeys. Through our peer support, networking, and accountability sessions, members refine their strategies and build the resilience needed to navigate the ups and downs of business ownership. The success stories we see—from women securing capital, landing partnerships, and scaling their businesses—are a testament to the power of preparation, confidence, and community.

What advice would you give to other women passionate about creating change and want to build a platform or organization that empowers others?

My advice is to start with clarity of purpose and a commitment to impact. Know who you want to serve and the problem you’re solving. Build a strong community-first mindset—success comes from creating a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Be consistent and willing to adapt. Growth takes time, and challenges will come, but resilience and flexibility will keep you moving forward. Surround yourself with mentors, partners, and a network that aligns with your vision.

Most importantly, take action. Perfection isn’t required—start where you are, refine as you go, and stay focused on the change you want to create.

What are some key lessons you’ve learned along the way?

Some key lessons I’ve learned along the way are that clarity and focus are essential. Staying aligned with your mission prevents distractions and ensures real impact. Building a strong community is just as important as building a business—success thrives on connection and collaboration.

Resilience and adaptability are crucial. Challenges will come, but staying committed and open to change keeps progress moving. Confidence grows through action—taking risks, learning from mistakes, and pushing forward leads to success.

Lastly, asking for help is a strength. Seeking mentorship, building partnerships, and leveraging resources accelerate growth and create meaningful impact.

Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of HerSuiteSpot?

My vision for the future of HerSuiteSpot is to help another 1000 women get ready for capital and truly understand what it means to be capital-ready. We want to ensure that more women have the knowledge, tools, and confidence to secure funding and scale their businesses successfully. Through our programs, mentorship, and community support, we will continue to provide the education and resources needed to help women navigate the funding landscape with clarity and confidence. We aim to bridge the capital access gap and create lasting opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive.

What are your goals for expanding its reach and impact, and how do you see the platform continuing to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of women entrepreneurs in the years to come?

We plan to grow HerSuiteSpot Academy, offering more pitch practice sessions, business coaching, and networking opportunities. As the needs of women entrepreneurs evolve, we will continue to adapt by integrating more digital learning tools, expanding partnerships, and creating new pathways for funding. Our focus remains on providing women with the knowledge, support, and community to scale their businesses confidently.
