The 2nd Annual “Building the Change” Gala is set to be a star-studded affair, with Anika Poitier, daughter of the legendary Sidney Poitier, and David Belafonte, son of the iconic Harry Belafonte, joining as special guests. The event is scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Rainbow Room in New York City and will celebrate individuals and organizations making significant strides in cultural activism and representation. Co-founders T. Oliver Reid, Warren Adams, and Reginald “Reggie” Van Lee, along with board members Aaliytha Stevens and Naila McKenzie, have curated a powerful program honoring Phylicia Rashad with the Lynn Nottage Bold Beacon Award, Luis A. Miranda, Jr. with the Poitier-Belafonte Award for Cultural Activism, Girl Be Heard with the Chadwick Boseman Change Maker Award and the John Gore Organization with the inaugural BTC Visionary Ally Award.

The gala will feature performances by Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose and members of the original Broadway cast of “Motown the Musical.” The Poitier-Belafonte Award, presented to Luis A. Miranda, Jr., recognizes his dedication to cultural activism. The Chadwick Boseman Change Maker Award, bestowed upon Girl Be Heard, honors Boseman’s commitment to representation and social justice. Phylicia Rashad’s recognition with the Lynn Nottage Bold Beacon Award highlights her impactful career in theater, film, and television. The John Gore Organization’s inaugural BTC Visionary Ally Award acknowledges their efforts in expanding access to theater.
