Alt-pop artist Emily Ricks tells relatable and emotional stories through her infectious voice and British ‘80s rock-inspired instrumentals. As an only child living on a ranch in Northern Los Angeles, music, as she described, was her “best friend” growing up. In her early twenties, Emily shares her pain, sadness, and life journey through her music, hoping to connect with the world.

Poor Rich Girl is loosely inspired by a girl Emily knew in high school, whose father’s dark past as a con man slowly unraveled. The book delves into the twisted irony of a once-privileged, mean girl now facing the consequences of her privilege. What was once a life of luxury has become a harsh lesson in humility as Emily finds herself among the “poor girls” she once looked down on.

This alt-pop banger pulses with Emily’s signature raw, dark, and messy aesthetic. With biting lyrics and a driving beat, Poor Rich Girl is sharp and addictive, showcasing Emily’s unflinching ability to blend pop hooks with emotional complexity. It’s a song about karma, the fragility of status, and the cost of being cruel—set to a melody that’s as irresistible as it is haunting.

Emily has created a recognizable voice through social media and amassed a loyal following. She first started gaining traction from her song “Calling It Falling,” which has achieved 300K streams since its release in late July. With successful Instagram posts and Emily’s creative, authentic, and trendy TikTok posts, she has amassed a strong online presence, gaining herself a feature on EARMILK.

Poor Rich Girl is available on all platforms on the 21st of February.
