The Las Vegas Aces star has been named the first-ever Global Ambassador for the Jr. WNBA, a role dedicated to empowering young girls through basketball, leadership, and community engagement. In her new position, Wilson will participate in Jr. WNBA events worldwide, from on-court training to off-court mentorship programs, while also serving as Strategic Advisor to the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Court of Leaders program.
For Wilson, this mission is personal. “I was once in their position… and because I stayed in sports, it allowed me to be the person I am today,” she shared. Her appointment represents not just an honor but a call to action for girls everywhere to see themselves in the game—and beyond.

The Jr. WNBA, launched in partnership with Girls Leadership, offers initiatives like Belonging in Basketball resources and the Jr. WNBA Vision Box, giving girls tools to set goals and envision their futures. Through these programs, participants develop both basketball skills and life skills, building confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.
Candice Haynes, Director of Youth Basketball Development, says Wilson was the natural choice for this role. “She already embodies the values of the Jr. WNBA… She genuinely cares about young people and the future of young women.” Wilson’s message to young athletes—“If you can see her, you can be her”—reflects her deep commitment to representation and empowerment.

Beyond her on-court accolades, Wilson’s advocacy work through the A’ja Wilson Foundation supports youth with dyslexia, proving her dedication to making a difference in multiple arenas. She hopes her Jr. WNBA ambassadorship will inspire future leaders to step into her shoes. “One day, I’d love to see a girl who was once in the program become a WNBA All-Star and take my place.”
With Wilson’s leadership, the Jr. WNBA is poised to expand its reach globally—championing girls in sports and shaping tomorrow’s game changers.
