The Ruth and Boaz movie screening was nothing short of amazing. This groundbreaking film reimagines the timeless biblical story of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz through a modern lens — honoring scripture while capturing the hearts of today’s audience.
Making history as the first adaptation of Ruth’s story created by an all-Black team and cast, the film is directed by Alanna Brown, produced by Devon Franklin and Tyler Perry, and written by Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar) and Cory Tynan (Play’d). Their collective vision brings forward a faithful yet fresh narrative that explores godly love, purpose, and divine alignment.

After the screening, a heartfelt Q&A session was hosted by gospel singer Erica Campbell, featuring Franklin, Sereyah (Ruth), and Tyler Lepley (Boaz). Franklin explained, “Ruth wasn’t looking for love. She was committed to service — and love found her,” highlighting the film’s unique approach to using scripture to guide a modern narrative. Lepley added, “I believe this movie will shape culture. When you see us on screen, you’re seeing all of us — writers, producers, creators.” Sereyah called it “a film that can reignite people’s desire to believe in love again.”
When asked about the “Naomis” in their lives, the cast shared emotional reflections. Franklin named his mother and great aunties — one of whom was in the audience. Sereyah honored her mother and grandmother, “who prays every time I fly.” Lepley credited his mother, fiancée, and daughter, tearing up as he shared their impact on his life and this role.
