( ENSPIRE She Did That ) Steele Develops Workshops for Women to Create with Emerging Technologies

Sybil Steele is innovating the tech space through virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), creating more immersive experiences for women and girls. With two decades of experience managing operations and producing films for Sipping Jetstreams Media, she was based in Indonesia and Australia. The roles of women influenced her in the different cultures she lived in and visited. Her creative work went beyond the fashion and beauty industries; her passions for women’s maternal health, empowerment, and access to education made her a producer and feminist to her core. With technology advancing at a rapid pace, and being a mom of two girls, she saw a huge gap in the market for positive, female-focused content that inspires. In 2016, with women’s maternal health, empowerment, narrative storytelling, and emerging technologies, she is steadily reaching more female audiences. Steele currently runs Temme Media from the New Museum NEW INC., a cultural incubator dedicated to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in New York.

Temme Media is a tech and femme company that specializes in a dynamic female voice, uses VR/AR, and produces customized experiences for brands and artists. Their goal is to explore how technology can better relate to an audience of women and girls alike, and how they will utilize it. Temme Media builds infrastructure for new forms of technology consumption, making all the elements more gender-fluid. According to MNTM research, women account for 90% of consumer spending, yet we still don’t have enough power to create and shape our media choices. There are some examples where Temme Media produced technology-based projects, including “Mothers of the Atlas,” which premiered at the Social Good Summit to showcase how mobile tech can reduce maternal mortality in remote areas. Another project was with Qualcomm Wireless Reach and Trice Imaging. Lastly, a primary project with Stance Socks featuring Toxic Shock Syndrome survivor Lauren Wasser, a double leg amputee who is educating women about tampons and their risks.

Steele is reaching more female audiences through Temme Media’s more immersive and impactful VR and AR technology. Through their collaboration, any brand can now create a relevant experience that sticks with viewers. One of Steele’s goals for social change is to empower young women through these media and to create a space for representation, community connection, and an elevated digital future. Temme Media is exploring media solutions to encourage dialogue for all genders, not only walking in someone else’s shoes but to showcase what those alternate realities actually feel like. One of her future goals is to develop workshops for young women to help them understand emerging technologies and to invent new avenues based on their interests. Temme Media has united with other women-driven tech companies, such as Women 2.0, and Hello Alice, the A.I. platform by Elizabeth Gore.
