ENSPIRE Contributor: Djata Doumbouya
“Dear Bully” is an Anti-Bullying film that focuses on the struggle that students at “BeYou High” face when encountering these bullies. The lead character, “Ace” played by Brooklyn rapper Malcolm Small and his group of friends overcome these struggles by sticking together. Ace’s history-altering daydreams, Hip Hop music, and animated music visuals help change the course of history.
The screening of the film took place at the SVA Theater – Manhattan, NY.All the cast members of the film attended along with their sponsors “Club X” and “Xposure Entertainment”. Executive producers Raymond L. Thomas and J. Marcelle Lashley- Kabore showed so much pride in what they accomplished with these young kids. They gave the younger generation a voice to speak on an issue that matters and happens often.
Bullying attacks a child’s self-esteem and if it doesn’t stop can even lead to teen suicide. This short-film isn’t only a conversation starter but it brings awareness to those who don’t have a voice. This film shows that bullying doesn’t happen to the weak or timid but the weak and timid can be the products of bullying and reciprocate that behavior.
