The inaugural Get Lit Virtual Grad Bash, presented by College Thriver Inc., took place virtually on Saturday, June 27, 2020. The virtual graduation celebration gave high school seniors who register for the event an opportunity to win $5,000 in scholarships, college planning assistance, cash, and other fun prizes.

The event kicked off with a spirit week which began on Monday, June 22, 2020, featuring Messy Monday, Tacky Tuesday, TikTok Wednesday — with a special senior exit dance from high school — Senior Skip Day Thursday, Brunch and Learn Friday, and concluded with the live virtual graduation on College Thriver’s Facebook page on Saturday, June 27th. Seniors wore their caps and gowns with their biggest supporter cheering them on to greatness. Additionally, there was also a very special Teen Yoga Meditation and Mindfulness for COVID-19 program during the event.

“Every student deserves to be celebrated for their hard work and accomplishments,” says Shawntia Lee, Founder of College Thriver Inc. Regarding the Virtual Grad Bash, Alicia Lovinder, Executive Assistant for College Thriver Inc. stated, “The event we have put together [is] not just for the minority students, but all high school graduates who will not be able to cherish in the momentous occasion that is Graduation Day. We have provided an opportunity to give the students a chance to show not just themselves, but others as well, one of the greatest stepping stones into Adulthood. We will also be launching our College & Career Readiness App that will connect students to various resources to help minimize the amount of student loan debt.”

College Thriver’s mission is to provide low-income, minority students an affordable solution to their college dreams. The nonprofit organization caters to the needs of minorities, low income, and under-served individuals who academically excel, but do not have the resources or the means to enroll in prestigious colleges and universities. College Thriver Inc. supports students to enroll in the college of their dreams with focused programs that support them from the beginning to graduation day.

College Thriver has identified the main hurdles that minorities and low-income people face when considering enrolling in their “dream” institution, as well as the day to day challenges of being a college scholar. The goal is to disrupt the higher education industry by proposing a student rebate program that will reward students who shop for college and then pay for their college tuition. This will help ensure no student falls victim to student loan debt.
