Last November, Autumn Marini made waves with the viral release of her song, ‘Drive’. Drive is the lead single off of her upcoming debut album, Caution. As a co-writer on every song, Marini will showcase both her songwriting and vocal talents. Produced by Damon Thomas and Mac Niff and written by Autumn Marini, Tchalla Pesante, and Gaven, ‘Drive’ is a fun yet sultry record from this new artist.

Marini is the new First Lady of Blackground Records 2.0, which was recently revived by the legendary Barry Hankerson. Since releasing her single, she has gained popularity, and anticipation for the release of her debut album has grown. Marini was the very first artist to be signed to Blackground Records 2.0 since its revival. She’s bringing a new and refreshing sound to the studio.

Blackground Records was initially launched in 1993, and quickly became a staple of music and pop culture. Over the years, Blackground Records – with artists such as the late Aaliyah, Timbaland, Tank, and JoJo – sold millions of records. It had ten Top 10 Billboard 200 albums and won countless awards. After re-launching as Blackground Records 2.0, the company plans to continue its influence on pop culture with a new generation of artists.

ENSPIRE spoke with Autumn Marini about her songwriting process, working with Barry Hankerson, and what’s next for her career.

What is it like working with Barry Hankerson?

It’s an honor working with the legendary Barry Hankerson. To be around someone with so much wisdom and success and having him behind me, my music, and my business is a blessing I have been waiting for my whole life.  If you surround yourself around success, it’s only a matter of time until you become successful yourself.

What does your songwriting process look like?

Songwriting is a very vulnerable but fun process. I treat my music like a diary so whatever emotions the beat can bring out of me I write about it.

Who or what is your biggest musical inspiration?

I’m inspired by a lot of artists but one that has inspired me the most is Aaliyah. I think me, alongside the whole world, was inspired by her music and spirit.

Are you currently working on any upcoming projects?

Alongside my debut single “DRIVE,” I’m soon to release my new song “Don’t Stop” featuring Jazze Pha. Also, I’m currently working on an EP.

Can we expect any collaborations with other artists in the near future?

Yes, expect many collaborations with some talented artists but I’m most excited about my collaborations to my remix for my single “Drive.”

What are your biggest dreams and aspirations?

I aspire to be the best version of myself, work hard, and never give up on myself.
