Grammy-winning Gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds released his new album titled “My Truth” on February 17, 2023, with a tracklist of twelve songs. At a recent private screening in NYC, Jonathan discuss the meaning behind “My Truth” as it being someone’s desire, and wishes to they want to fulfill, stating “My Truth is I’m a child of God, I’m a son of God, He loves me, he’s proud of me, he appreciates me like I was one of his favorite paintings on the wall. It has nothing to do with performance, good grades, salaries, or followers.” Not only does this give listeners insight into the album but about focusing on the love and faith of God and not materialistic things like money or social following as the reason for your path.
Jonathan talked about how it is important to stay true to one’s self, stay on the path of righteousness, and not deviate from it. As his career progresses, the further away he is from his values, and doesn’t want to go astray but keeps and instills the beliefs without losing himself as quoted “Let’s go back to the basics. If I let it, all this stuff can pull me away from God. Remind yourself who you are, who I am,” says the Lord. Stop trying to work off the pedestal they gave you and work from the foundation that I gave you.” Since his debut album “Life Music,” Jonathan has remained himself without trying to change into a different persona but genuine as he defines himself as more than a Gospel artist and not fitting into cliches. He believes it is important for artists to understand their values and not for the Black church community to place limitations on their creativity but to give autonomy and expression that can inspire, be relatable, and become an impact on listeners.
