It’s no secret that DC Comics, home of popular superhero characters Superman, Batman, and other members of the Justice League, has struggled to replicate the success of Marvel Comics Cinematic Universe. Recently, James Gunn, director of films like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, was announced to be appointed as the new creative director of the DCU, a rebooted version of the cinematic universe established by Man of Steel and other recent DC Comics film projects.

During the 2023 Super Bowl, a trailer for the upcoming film The Flash was shown off, which showed, besides Ezra Miller as the titular Flash character, actress Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Michael Keaton as his incarnation of Batman from the 1989 film. Michael Keaton is fondly remembered as having played a version of Batman different from Adam West’s previous portrayal, trading in slapstick comedy and episodic plots for a darker story with a whimsical yet mature tone.

The plot of the movie involving time travel has allowed both Batman actors to appear together and said time travel will also lead into the new slate of films and movies for the rebooted DC Universe. The film will be integral viewing for anyone hoping to keep up with DC Comics movies in the future.

The new suit Ezra Miller will wear as the Flash.

The Flash was initially announced for release on March 23, 2018, but has faced significant delays because of the COVID-19 pandemic, directorial changes, and post-production issues. It is unsure if Ezra Miller will return to portray the Flash in future films because of controversy and legal issues in recent years. This film will serve as a farewell to Affleck’s incarnation of Batman, so it might serve the same purpose as Miller’s Flash. Regardless, the film will have significant impacts on future DC Comics media. The Flash is in theaters starting June 16th, 2023.
