A new alternative pop singer and songwriter is becoming a viral sensation and it can only go up from here. Chinese-American artist Emei has released her new EP called “Scatterbrain.” These seven tracks discuss relatable themes including social anxiety, ADHD, expectation, self-sabotage, and more. Her amusing perspective on adult life makes her a relatable artist for this generation.
Over the past year, she built up a fanbase and has a decade of stage experience starting at the age of fifteen when competing on Chinese Idol. With several stadium shows, she won third place and soon began releasing her music on Chinese platforms. Eventually, she got the opportunity to perform on Dancing with the Stars of China. When Covid-19 hit, her music writing blossomed, and she began releasing on American platforms.
Here are a few songs from her new EP that have gained traction as single releases. Her single “Late to the Party” hit 6 million streams and 10 million on TikTok and Instagram. “Scatterbrain” got twenty million streams since its February 2023 release. It was featured on 15 NMFs internationally, received airplay on BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop Show, and was selected as “Poppest Record Of The Week”; including “Irresponsible” which got featured on NMF USA, Japan, and Canada, Planet Rave, and Pop Sauce.
Emei has been acclaimed by Billboard, Alt Press, and People Magazine. She gained media coverage on Wonderland, Earmilk, Ones to Watch, Early Rising, and Lyrical Lemonade. Her music has received playlist ads on 16 New Music Friday, Big on the Internet, Teen Beats, Pop Sauce, and Young & Free. Emei has sold out her first-ever headline shows in London including her upcoming dates in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Seattle. In recent news, Emei performed at the Valorant Championship Tournament in August at the Kia Forum in LA.
