Elena “Elle” Brown is a wellness influencer that is building generational health one juice at a time. The New Orleans native discovered her passion for holistic health and wellness when her daughter began struggling with severe skin issues. After working with a holistic doctor to clear her daughter’s skin, she began tackling her own health issues and ventured into the world of juicing. Through this struggle, she discovered her passion for promoting natural wellness for her family and community. 

Elle began posting her delicious and beneficial juicing recipes online and quickly garnered a strong social media following. Since early 2022, she has been encouraging others to prioritize their health with minor changes that have a major impact. She is staying true to her newfound purpose by creating content and safe spaces for people to learn about health and wellness. We were lucky to get the chance to hear advice and wisdom from her directly.

Can you describe some minor diet changes that will have a major impact?

Eating more fruits and veggies and reducing the amount of refined sugar you take in are minor changes, but can have a huge impact on your health. Sugar wreaks havoc on the body and can cause issues like weight gain, acne, inflammation, fatty organs, and other serious conditions. So, eliminating or reducing refined sugar intake can definitely be helpful to your overall health.

What is generational health, and how can building generational health start at home?

Generational health for me means creating healthier habits and ultimately a lifestyle change for our future lineage. Think about all the things that were passed down to us from our ancestors and how it still impacts us today. If we can prioritize our wellness and pass down a healthier way of living to our children and grandchildren, that would be powerful! I believe making health and wellness a family affair is one of the best ways to start at home. Invite the kids in the kitchen when you’re cooking a healthy meal or infusing an herbal tea, take walks together, pray, or meditate together. Start small and do it together!

How can incorporating juicing help relieve symptoms associated with different ailments?

I’m not sure if people know this, but the CDC recommends we eat 1.5-2 cups of fruit and 2-3 cups of veggies PER DAY to maintain a healthy eating pattern. Needless to say, so many of us don’t take in nearly as many fruits and vegetables as we should daily. The nutrients from our fruits and vegetables keep us healthy and help to fight off illness and disease. For me, juicing is a great way to make sure my body gets the vitamins and minerals it needs to be as healthy as possible! Juicing is also a great way to give my digestive system a break from processing food so the body has time and energy to heal and repair itself.

What are some beginner juicing recipes to get you started on your juicing journey?

One of my favorite (and simple) recipes contains 4 ingredients: kale, apple, cucumber, and lemon. You can even add a bit of ginger for some razzle dazzle and added benefit! This recipe is nutrient-dense, great for the gut, and yummy!

How do fruits and vegetables impact your life? For example, how do you know the right fruits and vegetables to eat for specific impacts?

A diet rich in fruits and vegetables is essential for everyone! The vitamins, minerals, and plant chemicals found in living foods (fruits and veggies) are what help to fight and reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases, i.e diabetes, stroke, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, etc. The types of fruits and vegetables you consume may vary from person to person depending on your overall health and the issue you are concerned with, however, consuming them is necessary to maintain good health!

Can you tell us more about your views on Holistic wellness ( how mental, spirit, and movement assist with your health needs and goals)?

I believe all things work together. It’s difficult to get your body to do something that your mind is not on board with, isn’t it? Yes! Your mind, body, and spirit each have a role in your overall wellness and it’s the balance of them all that creates a well you. I always encourage clients to take a holistic approach to health because that creates long-lasting change!

With holistic health in mind, you have spoken before about breathwork. How does COVID-19 change the importance of breathwork?

The truth is breathwork has always been important. Breathwork not only helps in terms of lung capacity (which is great for those of us who suffer from the respiratory effects of COVID-19) but it also helps to reduce anxiety and stress which we know contributes to other illnesses. So if you haven’t today, take a deep breath!
