Hailing from Atlanta, rising rapper Loui released his latest single “No Distractions” featuring Billboard Top 40 fellow rapper NLE Choppa in November 2023. Loui grew up in the College Park region of Atlanta and listened to Southern rappers like T.I. and Slim Thug in his teen years. Originally, he wanted to be a basketball player, but he pivoted his attention to music, releasing his earliest tracks in 2018.

“Shake Dat,” his 2019 single, went viral on social media and was remixed on TikTok featuring Lil Jay, a rapper from Chicago. Throughout 2020, Loui released a re-recorded version of “Shae Dat,” some other singles, and two mixtapes, “Sincere” and “Wass’ Goin.” However, his most-streamed track came in 2021, with “Talkin’ Bout,” a collaboration featuring guest vocalist Saweetie.

ENSPIRE spoke to Loui about his background and his musical process.

Originally an aspiring basketball player, Loui decided to turn to music instead by ninth grade because of his height. While he did not initially view himself as a musical artist, he was surrounded by friends who were into rapping. When ENSPIRE asked Loui how his dream of becoming a rapper began, he said he would often join his friends and “jokingly create raps with them.”

“As time went on, my passion for music grew,” he said. “And by the time I reached 12th grade, I started seeing rapping as a career path for myself.” When I asked Loui what goes into making a rap track, he said, “a catchy hook” and “say[ing] something that everyone can relate to.”

Loui—who is from Atlanta—also notes that his upbringing has significantly influenced his music.

“Local artists like T.I. and Young Booth played a major role in influencing me to pursue music,” he said. “The experiences I had in Atlanta led to me growing up quicker, and these artists truly showcased the essence of growing up in Atlanta.”

The up-and-coming rapper has already forged a place in the industry, having worked with artists like NLE Choppa and Saweetie. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with them, saying “No one else in the industry gave me that opportunity, so I appreciate them a lot for that. Especially me being where I’m from.”

When asked what he hopes to contribute to the Hip-Hop world, Loui said “I simply want people to listen to my music and hear what I have to say. I’m always aiming for excellence, but having my fans support me is more than enough for me.”

Seeing as the rapper has already embraced the true spirit of an artist—someone who loves making music and sharing it with the world—Loui is on track to share his creativity with a growing audience.
