SupportHER is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping women reach their full potential through mentorship, networking opportunities, and additional resources to help them succeed in life. SupportHER believes in amplifying women’s voices and valuing all the ways they contribute to the world. The organization has seen a significant amount of positive impact through various events and services, including back-to-school drives, The Prayer Board Extravaganza event, and a collaboration with VividRich HQ Film and Production Studio to put on an event catered toward women entering the film industry. During this event, SupportHER hosted two credible producers, Ja’Kari Whitfield and Markeia Jones, as guest speakers. Attendees were provided a unique opportunity for networking and connecting within the industry, along with valuable resources.

SupportHER also meaningfully engages with communities, including helping small businesses expand their reach. The organization uses a hands-on approach to helping businesses grow. It provides support with grant applications, offering a valuable resource for entrepreneurs looking to make a positive impact in their communities. SupportHER continues to uplift women and assist their success.

How did SupportHER come about? Did something specific inspire its creation, or was it something more gradual?

I’ve always been interested in helping people, though unsure of the extent. I’ve been actively involved in several women-based organizations. In 2017, I launched my first nonprofit, the Reach Foundation, aiding individuals without homes and supporting local shelters through donations and volunteering. However, lacking proper legal knowledge, I had to halt operations.

During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, while resting and watching movies, a moment on a prayer call sparked inspiration. Despite no prior knowledge of my plans, someone on the call urged me to pursue my vision. Thus, “SupportHer” was born.

Throughout my life, I’ve naturally gravitated towards mentoring and aiding others in their personal and business endeavors. Realizing the lack of reciprocal support, I envisioned a sisterhood that empowers women through mentorship, resources, and career opportunities. We are a supportive community where women thrive and reach their full potential.

How has founding and maintaining SupportHER impacted your own life?

Founding and maintaining SupportHER has profoundly enriched my life. It has provided me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment, allowing me to witness the tangible impact of empowering and supporting other women. Through this journey, I’ve grown personally and professionally, learning invaluable lessons about leadership, resilience, and the power of community.

What has been your favorite positive impact of SupportHER? Is there a story that stays with you or a favorite event SupportHER put on?

My favorite positive impact of SupportHER has been witnessing the transformation of women who have found empowerment and support through our community. One story that stands out is of a past co-worker who I lost contact with but found me on Instagram. She thanked me for encouraging her, mentioning that she would finally be graduating college. After that message, she reached out to express her interest in helping with SupportHER, and now she is on our executive board. She has gained confidence and resources. Seeing her thrive and achieve her dreams has been incredibly rewarding and highlights the power of our collective support.

Two of my favorite events that SupportHER has organized are “The Women Take the Reel” and “The Prayer & Vision Board Extravaganza.” Both events have been incredibly impactful and memorable, providing valuable opportunities for networking, empowerment, and personal growth.

How can people best help promote SupportHER’s mission? Are there opportunities to help SupportHER both locally and remotely?

People can best help promote SupportHER’s mission by engaging with us both locally and from a distance. As we continue to grow, opportunities to support us include following us on Instagram, spreading the word about our upcoming membership and mentorship programs, and considering in-kind donations, sponsorship, collaboration, and partnership. Every contribution, whether big or small, plays a crucial role in advancing our mission of empowering women. Thank you for your support!

What do you hope young girls know as they are growing up?

As young girls are growing up, I hope they know that their worth is immeasurable, their voices are powerful, and their dreams are achievable. I want them to embrace their uniqueness, pursue their passions fearlessly, and never doubt their ability to make a difference in the world. Most importantly, I hope they understand that they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to and that they deserve to be treated with respect, kindness, and equality in all aspects of their lives.

What’s next for the organization? Is there anything upcoming that you can share? If not, is there anything you hope to do with the organization in the future?

The organization’s next step includes partnering with local realtor Naomi Glay for her upcoming event, PowerTalk, in June. While we’re still mapping out the year ahead, we’re committed to creating something impactful. In the future, we hope to continue expanding our reach, forge meaningful connections, and empower women to reach their full potential. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
