Urban League of Union County Celebrates 80th Anniversary with a ULOUC Gala

Springfield, NJ –– The Urban League of Union County (ULOUC) proudly celebrates 80 years of empowering communities and changing lives. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the ULOUC will host its 80th Anniversary Gala on Friday, October 4th, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield, NJ (304 US 22) from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

This black-tie event promises an evening of unparalleled elegance, captivating entertainment, and well-deserved recognition. The event promises to treat guests to a delightful blend of dancing and fine dining, along with a program that highlights the achievements of ULOUC and the individuals who made them possible. The highlight of the evening will be a keynote address by Marc Morial, President & CEO of the National Urban League.

The gala will also recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations instrumental in the ULOUC’s success. A total of six awards will be presented throughout the night, including:

  • Whitney M. Young Award: Presented to Clarence Bauknight, Esq., the ULOUC’s longest-serving board member, for his unwavering commitment and leadership.
  • John Harmon, Sr.- I Am Empowered Award: Honoring individuals who have overcome adversity and succeeded.
  • Harris Freir-Donna Lowe Alexander Urban League Award: Recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to the ULOUC’s mission.
  • Corporate Partner Award: Presented to Elizabethtown Gas/South Jersey Industries for their generous support and community engagement.
  • Community Partner Award: Honoring the City of Elizabeth Housing Authority for their collaboration and dedication to serving the community.

This year’s celebration is presented by critical sponsors American Water and Elizabethtown Gas/South Jersey Industries, whose support has been invaluable in making this event possible.

Since its founding in 1944, the ULOUC has remained dedicated to empowering African Americans and other marginalized communities by promoting economic self-reliance, equal opportunities, and social justice.
