Has your experience as an archaeologist influenced your approach to fitness and wellness?
Absolutely! Archaeology taught me patience, discipline, and the importance of building a strong foundation—qualities that directly translate to fitness. When you’re digging through history, you learn that every layer tells a story, just like in fitness—every rep, every workout, and every habit builds toward a greater goal. My background also gave me a deep appreciation for movement. Archaeologists don’t sit still—we climb, dig, carry heavy loads, and adapt to different environments. That physical demand reinforced the importance of strength, mobility, and endurance, all of which play a major role in how I train myself and others today.
How did you come up with the idea of Gym In A Box, and what motivated you to create this innovative product?
Funny enough, my dad actually planted the seed for this idea three years before the pandemic while we were sitting in a Starbucks. He told me, “Create a product or subscription—more people are going to start working out in the virtual space.” At the time, I took it as solid advice but didn’t act on it right away. Then, when the pandemic hit, everything changed.
I had just opened my gym, and I had to shut it down within three months. The gym stayed closed for a year and a half due to the pandemic, and during that time, I had to figure out my next move. I was already selling fitness products, but when people started receiving their stimulus checks, demand skyrocketed, and I completely sold out of everything. I remember sitting in my living room, surrounded by boxes, realizing—this is bigger than just selling equipment. That’s when it clicked.
People didn’t just need gear; they needed a complete, convenient, at-home fitness solution. That’s how Gym In A Box was born—taking everything I knew about effective training and packaging it into an all-in-one system that made working out accessible for everyone. That moment changed everything, and it’s been incredible to see how it’s grown ever since.
In what ways do you think your personal struggles have equipped you to help others on their fitness journey better?
Going through my own challenges—especially surviving a traumatic car accident—completely reshaped how I approach fitness and how I train others. I know what it feels like to start over, to feel frustrated, to doubt if you’ll ever be strong again. That experience gave me a whole new level of empathy.
I don’t just train people; I understand them. I know firsthand that fitness isn’t just about looking good—it’s about rebuilding confidence, reclaiming your power, and proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you think. Because of my journey, I don’t just push my clients physically—I help them shift their mindset. I teach them that setbacks don’t define them, and consistency will always beat perfection. That perspective has been key in helping so many people transform their bodies and their lives.
How do you create a safe and supportive environment for your clients?
For me, it’s all about energy, trust, and meeting people where they are. I make sure every session—whether in-person, virtual, or at an event—feels like a space where people can show up as they are, with no judgment or intimidation.
One of the biggest things I focus on is education. I don’t just tell my clients what to do—I teach them why they’re doing it. I want them to understand their bodies and feel empowered to take control of their health long-term.
I also make sure my training spaces feel like a community. Fitness should never feel lonely, and I always aim to create an environment where people support and uplift each other. Whether it’s in a class, through social media, or at events, I want everyone to feel like they belong—and that they’re capable of achieving more than they ever thought possible.
What advice would you give someone just starting their fitness journey?
Start where you are, use what you have, and trust the process. You don’t need the perfect plan, the perfect body, or the perfect circumstances—you just need consistency.
Don’t compare your Day 1 to someone else’s Year 5. Focus on small wins—showing up, drinking more water, moving a little more each day. Those little things add up and create real, lasting change.
Most importantly, give yourself grace. Fitness isn’t about punishing yourself—it’s about honoring your body and all that it can do. Your future self will thank you for every step you take today, so just keep moving forward. You got this!
