Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Gabourey Sidibe (of “Precious” fame) takes center stage in Lifetime’s latest original movie, “Give Me Back My Daughter.” The premiere was on April 5th. The film portrays a mother’s unwavering love and resilience in adversity. Sidibe stars as Renee, a hardworking single mother. When she loses her job and, subsequently, her home, she and her daughter Imani (played by Cadence Reese) are left without shelter. Renee is an independent person who refuses to seek help from outside sources, leading to a heartbreaking incident. One day, at a job interview, Renee leaves Imani in the car, resulting in her arrest and the removal of her daughter by Child Protective Services.
“Give Me Back My Daughter” follows Renee’s journey through the family court system as she fights to regain custody of Imani.
