Walk With Sally (WWS) made the difficult decision on March 15 to change their annual in-person bowling fundraiser to a virtual experience. As a result of their team’s perseverance and their community’s incredible dedication, WWS was able to surpass its fundraising goal. A portion of these proceeds will go to directly support their families impacted by COVID-19 through their Temporary Family Support program.

WWS focuses on supporting children whose family member is fighting or has fought cancer through mentorship and community support. During this tumultuous time, the WWS team is indirect, regular communication with their families to identify their needs and how they can best support them right now. This includes in-depth conversations to see who may be looking for financial support through their Temporary Family Support program.

WWS is also collaborating with partner organizations and nonprofits to provide resources and activities to their families to help them stay connected, as well as adapting their programs for this new environment so that they can all continue to feel the support of the larger Walk With Sally community. They have even adapted some of their recent art healing activities through the HeART to Home program with ideas on how participants can do them with their child at home.

During times of crisis, it is even more important for children to have consistent support. WWS is adapting its training program so that mentors can be ready to go as soon as these physical distancing measures are lifted. If you are interested in becoming a mentor today, fill out a Mentor Application here. If you or someone you know has a child who has been impacted by cancer, please reach out to Walk With Sally here.
