The atmosphere at Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts was buzzing with excitement for the annual Dream Reach Inspire Career Sparks Summit, attended by students, educators, and professionals. This marked my third time attending the event, and each year, the impact only deepens. Founded by Emmy Award-winning news anchor Phil Taitt, Dream Reach Inspire is a testament to the power of giving back. Taitt, an alumnus of the school, returns every year with a clear mission: to educate, empower, and enlighten the youth of his community.
The summit was more than just a career day; it was a masterclass in possibility. Students engaged directly with powerhouse professionals across various industries, taking part in hands-on STEM activities, robotics, and creative building exercises. The atmosphere was amazing, filled with encouragement and hope. As one student shared, “Seeing people who really made it made me feel like I can do it too.” Another noted, “They made me believe that my dreams are possible.” These reflections underscore a fundamental truth: representation matters. When young people see individuals who look like them succeeding in diverse fields, it shifts their trajectory.

For me, taking part in this summit aligns perfectly with our core values. Our mission has always centered on mentorship, career development, and creating platforms that amplify positive media. Students require more than just classroom instruction. Programs like this initiative are designed to bridge the gap between ambition and opportunity, connecting youth with caring professionals who can guide them.
Phil Taitt’s dedication to his community is a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility. The time, energy, and honesty shared by the presenters at the Career Sparks Summit reminded students that their dreams are valid and within reach. When professionals and the community come together and show up for the youth in these events. By showing up, sharing our journeys, and investing in our youth, we are not just preparing them for life beyond high school; we are helping them build the confidence to change the world.

The Dream Reach Inspire team has created a truly transformative experience. As we continue to work toward inspiring the next generation, let us all remember the profound impact of mentorship and the enduring power of community.
