In March 2024, R&B singer Ivey Amour went on tour to celebrate her latest EP release, “Haze.” She started her tour in Seattle on March 22, followed by March 24th in Everett, WA, and North Hollywood, CA on March 29th. Continued to Santa Clarita, CA on March 30th, Conroe, TX on April 6th, and finally to Chicago, IL on May 4th. The St. Louis-based singer-songwriter is an R&B powerhouse that has gained traction and popularity. Whenever Amour is in the studio, she belts her desire, angst, and remorse, creating a fusion of empowering confessions through strength and healing. With brazen lyrics and alluring coals to boot, her emotionally driven lyrics hit home.

Amour ventured into music at a young age, mastering the piano at age 9 and playing the flute at age 12. She continued to explore new instruments, such as the guitar. Her teenage experience in music was performing on stage for the first time at a summer camp with her local arts program. That same year, she performed at her school’s talent show. With these two profound moments of her life, she knew music was her future career path. Replying to her experiences and writing them down, accompanied by soulful elements of R&B Amour, she has combined various styles and sounds, which make her creatively fresh when voicing themes of love and heartbreak.

Ivey Amour shared her experience writing her EP “ Haze,” her writing process, her favorite artist that inspired her, and her pursuit of a music career in R&B. In addition, she will discuss exploring her music craft with instruments and songwriting. You can look forward to learning about the Haze Tour and what she hopes her audiences can look forward to when listening to the EP and future songs.

When did you begin writing for your EP “Haze”? What is your writing process?

The majority of Haze was written between 2021 and 2023. I draw inspiration from my own life and my friends and family.

Who are your favorite artists that inspired you to pursue your music career and find your sound in R&B?

My favorite R&B artists are Mariah Carey, Rihanna, and Ciara. Mariah Carey’s vocal range and songwriting ability have always greatly influenced me, particularly her emotional depth and versatility in R&B. Rihanna’s approach to music, blending genres and pushing boundaries, showed me the power of authenticity and creativity. Ciara’s smooth vocals and dynamic performances have also been a big inspiration.

You are known for mastering piano at 9 and knowing the flute and guitar. Besides your instrumental endeavors, how did you learn your craft of songwriting? When did it start?

Before I officially started releasing music, I recorded many songs written by other people. As talented as most of the writers were, I felt like the songs didn’t represent me, and I quickly realized the only way they would be was if I picked up the pen myself. So, sometime within the last ten years, I wanted to write too.

Some themes you delve into are love and heartbreak, which many listeners can relate to. Do you craft other types of songwriting that describe different facets of your experiences and emotions?

While love and heartbreak are central themes in my songwriting, I explore other facets of human experience and emotion. My lyrics often touch on personal growth, resilience, self-discovery, and the complexities of romantic relationships. Each song reflects a particular moment or feeling that stood out to me.

Describe your experience on the Haze Tour. How was the energy in each stage performance and the audience? What were some of your favorite moments during this journey?

The Haze Tour was an incredible experience. Each city had its unique vibe, but the crowd’s enthusiasm was always high. A highlight of the tour was meeting fans after the shows; hearing their stories and knowing that my music resonated with them on a deep level was incredibly rewarding. The whole journey was a mix of hard work, joy, and connection, and it’s something I’ll carry with me forever.

What do you hope listeners get from your EP “Haze,” and what future goals do you have for your next project?

I hope listeners feel deeply connected to the stories woven into each track. The project reflects my journey—through love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—and I want Haze to resonate with anyone who has gone through similar experiences. I hope it provides comfort, empowerment, and shared understanding.

As for my future goals, I’m excited to continue evolving my sound and exploring new themes in my next project. I want to experiment with different musical influences while staying true to my R&B roots. I also aim to collaborate with other artists and producers to bring new perspectives to my music.
